all i'm saying is sometimes you have to lose your job due to an industry employment crisis to get meaningfully introspective lol

especially with the industry, locally and globally, in so much turmoil at the moment, chasing the goals I had in my teens or 20s and trying to figure out if it's even possible, and if so, how?

... continually chasing an idea of success that isn't your own eventually leads to burn out. over the past few years I've been questioning exactly why I'm doing this, if I was never really happy or satisfied with my place within the industry while simultaneously not knowing where to go next

it's also easy to lose your personal vision, your former artistic priorities and goals, and have them replaced with professional standards that probably don't align

part of that is also that working in entertainment media, it's really rare for production artists to be working in their own style, or in a space where they feel unconstrained by a client or production

i feel like over the last 10 years I completely lost my ability to make art that is personally fulfilling instead of trying to make "portfolio pieces" that live up to my interpretation of an industry standard because I occupied a professional space for so long

one of the things i've been trying to be more conscious of lately is my personal relationship with art
