Every game should be a bit of both but overdoing it can make it feel downright goofy, I have trouble taking VoTV seriously sometimes when i remember the kind of silly stuff that can happen in the game

The game is overall a bit too unserious and there's way too much self-inserting that becomes very apparent the more you play and it's very immersion breaking, especially the Ariral stuff (not all of it but most of it certainly)

It feels kind of surreal because i still remember both of those as if they were yesterday.

I remember shivering when I finally killed it for the first time after about twenty attempts over a span of several weeks. I still carry the same bonus gear with me to fight it whenever I replay it but I end up not using almost any of it since now I can just beat it without issue.

I actually tried to fight Sans for the first time in about a decade. I remember struggling for weeks to even get past the first phase and recently when I did it in current day I basically managed to do it in about 3 tries lol
I also remember being terrified of the Wall of Flesh in terraria, in fact

One of my siblings avoids playing any old games (especially old TES games) in fear of ruining the image of the game they have in their head. I don't even remember most of the games I played as a child but if I did I feel like I'd avoid playing them too as I easily get lost in nostalgia lol

I can't really find the proper words to describe how "personal" Undertale felt either. I started playing Undertale Yellow recently and it's pretty good too so far! I feel like it doesn't hold the same "wonder" as the original did either but I actually think this time it's just my nostalgia LOL

Or maybe I just really want to be back in school and play video games without being able to predict everything about them and watch game theory videos again. Oh well!
