In a video game if you give me the prompt to shoot the bad guy while they're monologuing about the traumatic event led them down the path of villainy, I will take the bait every time. My patience for trying to make clearly irredeemable villains more human is just so thin at this point.

Sometimes characters are just assholes. You don't have to explain to me why if it doesn't necessarily ladder up to something compelling.

Liked it a lot. Del Toro clearly trying to balance a version that's faithful to the novel's vengeful monster and Universal's more tender take on the creature. Mostly successful with a few stumbles. Best when it just lets Oscar Isaac showcase how awful Victor is than trying to make him sympathetic

Even if it had no other redeeming qualities, Event Horizon would be an all-time classic for Fishburne’s delivery of this line alone youtu.be/hm5KI8zSeVs?...

Nobody knew how to have a good time in 1997 I guess.

Still, it's a fun game set in that world. Most VTM games are low quality, which is frustrating because that setting clearly has so much potential. Would love to see a CDPR/Larian/Owlcat-level game set in the World of Darkness. That's probably what that setting needs to break through in a big way.

Like, if you're going to make Dishonored but vampires...just do that. Let me sneak past everything as an option, especially if you've got Lasombra and Banu Haqim as options. Gating places with forced combat is so odd in this context.

For all the talk about clans and their abilities, there’s really only two ways to play the game: pick off enemies one by one or invest in crowd control abilities. Pure stealth is a dead end because there are forced enemy arenas all over the place. You can’t sneak through the majority of the game.

At the end of Bloodlines 2. Separated from its sequel context, it’s a good, occasionally great time. Some real head-scratching frustrations though.

To be clear: Not a bad book. Have read it twice now. Many beautiful passages mixed with some of the most disgusting stuff you’ll ever read. More of something to be experienced than comprehended (more Finnegans Wake than Ulysses). Prefer Lot 94 and Mason & Dixon over it tho.

My boy Pynchon whenever he senses an overambitious undergrad pick up Gravity’s Rainbow.

Reading Gravity’s Rainbow is probably closest you can get to emulating whatever Cooper felt sitting in the Black Lodge for 25 years.

Kicking off some PTO today. The first real break I’ve had since our BF6 reveal in July. Very proud of all the work we’ve done as a team but it’s been a long year, so looking forward to a break. Lots of media to catch up on.

Some people go on vacation once a year. The more budget conscious of us choose to listen to Rumours incessantly on repeat for a couple of weeks annually instead.

Slow mo powers, a small country’s worth of firepower, and martial arts don’t mean shit against Tetsuo-Sadako.

It’s got some warts but the combo of immersive sim and RPG elements holds up and the world is incredible. So many great quests. Love that game. So ahead of its time

My relationship with Silent Hill games is that I love the atmosphere and stories but I do not enjoy their approach to puzzles at all, to the point it usually rips me out of the experience.

Vampire Bloodlines has a terrifying quest near the start of the game that sends you to a hotel. Worth playing through that if it hasn’t been spoiled for you. It’s like…in the first hour of the game, so even if the rest of it doesn’t appeal to you, you can dip.

Most horror games have a collection of great scares but rarely remain scary throughout the whole experience (for me anyway) - even the best ones. Good examples.

I've played *so* many horror games. I've only ever played one game that was consistently, genuinely stomach-churning levels of terrifying throughout the whole game.

I'm so confident Pew Pew Bang could have like 5 million followers if the right people were exposed to it. Do you have people in your life who love games but hate listening to a bunch of dudes talk about them? Show them Pew Pew Bang!! It's the podcast that's also a slumber party!
