For a decade, SFMTA's #1 legislative priority was legalizing speed safety cameras, because they're best tool for cutting traffic violence. How are they working?

Unfortunately, no. Cast-in-place requires us to embed rebar dowels in the road to anchor the concrete. We can’t do that on a bridge without risking damage. We will be testing other flexpost alternatives for bridges that we hope can be more reliably attached with adhesives.

Yes! Cast-in-place is more durable than precast. It’s also more flexible. We can use it for bike lane buffers, pedestrian refuge islands, daylighting, even mini roundabouts. It’s also more customizable. We can size pieces to whatever the street needs instead of relying on premade sizes.

STATEMENT ON DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE LAWSUIT AGAINST BOSTON

This unconstitutional attack on our city is not a surprise. Boston is a thriving community, the economic and cultural hub of New England, and the safest major city in the country β€” but this administration is intent on attacking our community to advance their own authoritarian agenda. This is our City, and we will vigorously defend our laws and the constitutional rights of cities, which have been repeatedly upheld in courts across the country. We will not yield.

The US Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures.

All Hail the Humble Speed Hump These simple, cheap traffic-calming devices are both effective and wildly popular with (most) residents. Here’s why more cities are going all-in on speed humps.

Let us pay tribute to the speed hump, an unsung hero of street safety.

These prosaic protrusions of pavement can work wonders -- and at minimal cost.
