Nobody who wasn’t, de jure or de facto, part of a top-flight team in 2024 played for a top-flight team in 2025. I disagree that’s “clearly not a closed shop”. Again, my numbers did not miss your player. I just counted her as a top-flight player, — because she played for a top-flight team.

Not really, because there are are well over 100 women to whom this didn’t happen. Your player *is* captured by the numbers, you see — just not categorised the way you feel she should have been. By my categorisation, she was a top-tier player, and she stayed there.

Today I attended my county’s first professional women’s game. A last-ball win over a very strong opposition. I’m completely hooked. Suddenly I have two dozen more @somersetccc.bsky.social games to watch every season, and two dozen more players to call “ours”. I feel very lucky.
