Something that gets lost is that what you highlight in your day to day comms doesn't have to be what you run in paid. A member of Congress should talk about money they brought to the district for specific projects, the TV ads should hit Republicans on cuts to Medicaid that pay for Elon's tax breaks

This doesn't mean you can't also talk about tariffs and other ways Republicans are crushing the economy, you really can do both, and you should do both!

The reason why you have to talk about an illegal deportation, regardless of whether you're currently winning or losing on immigration is that you HAVE TO win the argument. If the government can send you to a gulag for any reason, nothing else even matters.

I know this is extremely vulgar idealism, but I do think we should try to aggressively reassert the norm that lying is bad. Not in a "Four Pinnochios" fact-checking kind of way, but in a way that frames this kind of lying as moral degeneracy that is fundamentally corrosive to the human spirit.

It's not new obviously, but seeing it framed this way in the NYT was jarring. It's presented as if he has constitutional authority, which he clearly does not.

I don't think the chaos is the point, I think that's mistaking incompetence for savvy because you want to believe your enemies aren't doing politics in a way that you have to describe as "resembling The Three Stooges trying to get through the same door".

Whatever criticisms you have of Shor Thought, he starts from the premise that the math to win the popular vote (let alone the electoral college) is extremely challenging, which I think most people truly don't understand.

And I think that's where the frustration with the party lies. Because Republican candidates are so extreme & so unfit, there's this assumption that we should never lose, but the reality is it's somewhat remarkable that we're able to compete at all given that in a good year we win 44% of white people

The electoral success of the party is a testament to it's political strength, and we constantly out-perform the baseline expectation of the electorate. But it's also true that a huge part of our electoral success the last 25 years is because Republican candidates are truly insane.
