The first to arrive at the rally were a few individuals parodying the rally. They came dressed in suits and gowns, drinking water from champagne flutes, all a part of a theatrical gesture to mock the pro-billionaire rally. Among those in costume who participated in the parody rally was L.M. Bogad, a performance artist and professor of political performance at UC Davis. He started a satirical group in the early 2000s called Billionaires for Bush, a street theater political organization, and said he continues to show up in costume when big political moments like this happen.

I was wondering if this “march” was performance art because I remember a satirical group doing this at protests in SF around the Iraq War (“Americans for War at Any Cost”) and Occupy, and lo and behold, the Billionaires for Bush guy showed up to mock the actual participants of this one.

Seeing Jason Gallardo’s name as the lobbyist who met with the city on their behalf just made me go 🤦🏽‍♀️🙄. He was basically an in-house lobbyist during his time in DOTI, so it’s not at all surprising to see him turn up in this story.

During my time, it was the same revolving door story for people experiencing homelessness who got rapid rehousing vouchers vs permanent supportive housing. So it shouldn’t have surprised anyone to get the same result with this demographic too.

Does the data show what % of eviction filings were for tenants who are new immigrant arrivals? Early in the year, I worried about the number of folks getting placed in units who didn’t have work permits yet and/or long-term stable income streams.
