Sometimes they share, like this goldfinch and blue tit (I wasn't paying enough attention to the autocorrect and very nearly claimed there was a goldfish on the feeder)
04.03.2026 16:35 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 095% of the clientele at the bird feeder are tits (fnarr fnarr) but we do get the occasional not-a-tit...

Lace week again for #ShowMeYourKnits? Now you're talking!
I don't knit nearly as much lace as I used to (there's a limit on how many lace shawls one can store/give away) but I've probably made hundreds over the years.

The bird feeder has been cleaned and refilled, so here's a golden hour coal tit for your feed.
28.02.2026 17:14 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I know I'm too old to make a big fuss about birthdays, but being woken up by the cat at 4:30 am followed by him (thankfully half heartedly) attacking my ankles doesn't feel like the best way to start the day...

24.02.2026 21:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Few wobbles on the way, but I'm doing okay. In the middle of house purchase limbo as I've finally made the decision to move back closer to family.
21.02.2026 12:59 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A Facebook memory from 8 years ago as follows: Off to see Robin Ince at the Victoria Theatre this evening. This means Going Out And Doing Stuff on my own. Yikes!
A page from a book. The relevant paragraph reads: In the week before I wrote this, there were three incidents where momentarily I felt the strength and possibility of this connection. While I was signing books and chatting to the audience, a young woman timidly approached me. She wanted to tell me that this was the first gig she had been to since her husband had died. We spoke a little. I gave her a book. I gave her a hug and then worried all the way back on the train whether that had been the right thing to do.
I'm barely on FB these days, but one of today's memories feels worth sharing.
The first thing I went to on my own after losing Dave and the fact that it appears in @robinince.bsky.social's subsequent book I'm a Joke and So Are You. (It was totally the right thing to do, btw)
Rewatching an old episode of celebrity bake off just for this bit:

If you've been thinking of buying yourself a shiny thing, I can tell you that the one I bought is even prettier irl than in the pictures...
(No affiliation, just a happy customer who wants y'all to buy all the shinies as she can't afford another one right now.)
Neither did I until I looked it up! Basically, the tendon between the base of my thumb and my wrist is inflamed - hopefully rest and a few weeks in a brace will take care of things.
08.02.2026 18:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A partly completed pixel art colouring page. It looks like the finished image is likely to be a wizard
No knitting or crochet for me for a while, as it looks like I'm suffering from De Quervain's tenosynovitis so my left thumb is going to be in a brace for a bit. So I've broken out the felt pens for a bit of old school analogue pixel art...

Quoting my own post so I can share what is quite possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever knitted.

That is beautiful! I look forward to seeing it post transformation - as a lace knitter the blocking process feels nothing short of magical
06.02.2026 19:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0For those who are interested, the pattern is SugarPlumFairy by Andrea Jurgrau and the yarn is my own hand spun - a 3ply light lace weight using fibre from Posh Yarn.
02.02.2026 21:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A knitted lace shawl in progress rests on a sleeping cat. The yarn being used is slightly striped in blue, green and purple, but these stripes are much less pronounced in real life than they are in the photo. It doesn't look like much, but lace never does until it has been blocked.
Trying to keep the brain weasels quiet by working on a long-neglected WIP. Not entirely sure that an enormo shawl where every right side row is charted separately is exactly soothing, but it certainly keeps the mind occupied.

With the proviso that it was a feck of a long time ago, and I am now An Old, so exact course titles are lost to the mists of time:
Geology
Civil engineering
Fluid mechanics
Statistics
Metallurgy
With bonus points for anyone who can guess what degree I did...
Stupid bad dreams that won't let go of me, so I was up and making coffee just after 4am. Still feeling rather unsettled and on edge - hopefully some undemanding TV will help dislodge the fear...
