Ooh! I've done the video game one a few times, but never the manga equivalent! Okay, 9 manga that made me. These are the titles that come to mind. You can tell my age by some of them!

If this is true, I really need to move to Linux. They have GUI distros that look and feel similar to Windows to make the transition easier now. Would just need some compatibility layers / native ports of some of my favourite programs and games.

Here's what I dont understand about DLSS, frame gen and similar technologies: How is using context to figure out what a higher resolution / additional frame would look like and then creating that image less resource intensive than simply running the game at a higher resolution / frame rate?

There are rumours it is considering introducing a 'commercial research exception' for AI training. This would be disastrous. It would mean handing the life's work of British creatives to AI companies for free, to train their models on.

This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public.

What I'm saying is it's never too late. I've been back through therapy, had my medications changed and made the decision to switch jobs all in my mid-30s for the sake of my mental health and lifelong conditions. I would strongly recommend reaching out to see what help is available.

Thankfully, my local Autism Hub has done lots of work to demolish the old harmful stuff I was taught so we could then lay the foundations for something healthier. It actually helps me be my best self by asking the world to meet me halfway. Along the way, we also discovered I have GAD and ADD.

I spent 2 decades knowing I was a square peg for a round hole and being told the only solution was to shave myself down at the sides and force fit through. Obviously, that wasn't healthy or sustainable and it caught up with me in a big nasty way that broke something and fundamentally changed me.

If it's of any consolation, despite being diagnosed at 14, the majority of the work I've done to understand and live with my conditions has been achieved across the past 4 years.

22 years ago, ASD was described to me as a problem and I was taught social masking to compulsively hide it.

It's sadly systemic too. I spent two years leaping through hoops of fire to get awarded PIP, despite 100s of pages of evidence in the form of diagnoses, doctors' notes, etc. One of their rebuttals included, "We are not debating if Mr Webster is disabled. We are debating if he qualifies for support."

Good news is the Steam Deck natively recognises that the PS4 has it (as well as gyro) and tracks it pretty accurately. The bad news is not every game / app knows what to do with it. Sometimes need a community controller layout to enable it in-game.

Emulation via the Steam Deck and a DualShock 4 is a great experience that could legitimately replace everything through to and including PS2. No one tell my wife though. I'm one of those weirdos who like the "experience" of original hardware, like a vinyl advocate but for games.

Sat down after lunch and grabbed the third flask. Moreau's section was again very short. Oh well, relinquished the PlayStation 5 to the kids and will come back for the fourth and final flask another day.

Update: I now have two flasks in Resident Evil Village. Loved the escape room series of puzzles centered around the doll. Wasn't so keen on the game of hide and seek that followed. Kind of surprised that section only took around 40 minutes after how involved Castle Dimitrescu was.

A Dualshock 4 being used to control a Steam Deck.

The Dualshock 4 makes for a surprisingly good Steam Deck controller! The touch pad can be used as a mouse and the input delay over Bluetooth is so much better than it was on an Xbox Series controller.

It went really well. People really liked the game. Huge thanks to @vgeevents.bsky.social and @debugmag.com for hosting. Looking forward to doing it all again with an updated build in April for @debugexpo.com in Norwich!

So, we finished Fullmetal Alchemist (2013) last night and err... I have notes. There's stuff I loved, stuff I hated and enough thoughts to fill an entire video essay were I an anime channel rather than a gaming channel. Overall, I am glad I finally gave it a chance and watched it though.
