I like to watch the Pilot and Requiem back to back - they are such nice book ends! I too thought Jenn was crazy when she suggested this as her favorite series finale, but I think I would put it right behind β€œExistence” now.

Ha, I was right there with you. Fortunately I had to take a typing class in grade 7, the same year The X-Files premiered.

I’m finally understanding the asteroid numbering scheme they use in The Expanse…

13.01.2026 00:01 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Got it. These are going to be some pretty small asteroids, eh?

12.01.2026 23:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Well, better known than unknown, eh? To which telescope do we owe this new batch of discoveries?

12.01.2026 23:58 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh my, are you expecting to discover millions of asteroids in a two week period?!

12.01.2026 23:55 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh wow, that’s a lot of asteroids! Thanks @lukemeister.bsky.social!

Random question, but what does the subscripted 8 after β€œFO” stand for? I found an explanation for the rest of the old name, but the extra number remained elusive.

I’m always up for putting more Titan in my proposals.

Oh my gosh, you’re right. I even show that email in my standard Dragonfly talk. I can’t believe it’s been ten years!

The Core Podcast Episode Β· Popcorn Science Podcast Β· 06/28/2025 Β· 1h

I simultaneously love The Core, and had an amazing time criticizing its science. Fun fact - I interrupted them filming the classroom scene trying to get to the computer lab at UBC. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/p...

My office floor is made of concrete, as if it didn’t want us to lay face down, so I brought in a camping pad for this express purpose.

Yeah, that was definitely Gillian Anderson speaking. I heard the whole scene was ad libbed.

Best line of the episode: ”You were frozen. Then I hugged you until you weren’t frozen any more.”

I believe they are working on changing their name to β€œGuides of Canada,” so non-binary kids don’t feel excluded.

Yeah, Girl Guides has really evolved with the times in a positive way. I was a leader for the past six years, and we had a meeting on what it means to be LGBTQ+, where we invited a drag queen. We participated in several Pride parades and one of our kids was openly non-binary.

An excellent thread! It truly is a wild time to be an educator.

I laughed at the discussion about truth serum - my husband *also* knew what it was, and I had never heard of it! I thought perhaps it was because he is a nurse, but maybe the conspiracy runs deeper than that…

Yeah, I just came to chime in that this is one of my favorite Season 9 episodes. I thought Robert Patrick nailed the scene where he remembers that his son is dead. It is heartbreaking and very real.

I had never studied severe weather before (or written a purely "terrestrial" paper), so I reached out to the Severe Storms Lab. They introduced me to Sophia Slabon, a bright undergraduate student in Geography, and Dr. Connell Miller.

A year and a half ago, I attended an Earth Observation workshop sponsored by @westernuspace.bsky.social. There was a talk about tornadoes that got me thinking - could we detect and characterize tornado tracks with synthetic aperture radar?

My 12 year old is unfortunately not interested in the X-Files. But for what it’s worth, I started watching it myself when I was 12, and I never found it that scary. I thought they were good at hiding all the really scary stuff in the shadows.
