The internet, on scientists: They're secretive gatekeepers, they hoard esoterica/the truth, they don't want anyone in their ivory tower little clubs

Actual scientists: LOOK, WE FOUND A 300 MILLION YEAR OLD FOSSILIZED CLOACCAL IMPRESSION AND THE VENT IS HORIZONTAL! PLZ READ MY 67-PAGE PAPER ABOUT IT

It is so funny to go directly from β€œwe need to stop being elitist, and connect with the vast middle of the country and the things they care about” to β€œwe will be aggressively covering the mayor of New York City nonstop”.

Christmas cards ever-so-subtly in the Castorini hallway, which leads me to believe a preoccupied Rose hasn’t gotten around to decorating yet.

This raises the obvious question of what kind of thing the Trump admin might need the National Transportation Safety Board to do that a conscientious Board member would reject.

I have only listened to Dead Outlaw once so far, but it's terrific.

My affection lies with the studio album (which I listened to so many times) but I am so glad there is a live album with the complete score.

The Six studio cast recording is 7 years old now but it was an obsession. As was the Kimberly Akimbo album.

I am assuming you mean new recordings and not revival or studio albums.

Generally speaking, the media is much more comfortable amplifying fake outrage over a Democrat than the real thing over a Republican. Even years later if you search β€œObama coffee salute” you see how much of the most mainstream media bought in. Compare to searching β€œTrump hat” and see who is on it.

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

Thing that really gets my goat is the way people are eager to fund this bullshit but you need eleven layers of analysis and a ton of collateral if you want to open a small grocery store in a food desert.

I would argue they knew exactly what they were doing, which was deliberately sabotaging needed public works programs by offering snake oil they never had any intention of delivering.

to me it rocks that this company that has never come within light-years of making money and has a bad product with zero practical use cases is the pivot point of the global economy because a bunch of embarrassing Burning Man dorks just decided it should be

Sublime lunacy I'll never forget: the entire audience chanting "Wood! Wood! Wood!" during the first-act finale of The New Yorkers at Encores! as the actors made an absurd pile from pencils to piano.

(The orchestration quoting "March of the Wooden Soldiers" at its climax is esp. inspired)
