I love Bluesky but I've also been doing Tumblr for long-form posts. And I gotta say, there's something comforting about a place that's been more or less stable since before Facebook had statuses without "[Name] is..." at the beginning.

Ultimately, the best thing to do is download your info and close your account entirely. I know that's not realistic for a lot of people rn, so if you do stay on, minimize your footprint by deleting the native apps and accessing them only on your computer with a more secure browser like DuckDuckGo.

I appreciate how concise the post is. It's a really good hook, and it's pretty clear what "1950s" means in politics, culture, and society.

This will disable some tracking, but not all of it. Next best thing is to delete all Meta apps from your phone. I've already done this for Facebook itself, and will be deleting Instagram, Threads, and Messenger in the coming weeks.

You hit the nail on the head, honestly. All the "trad wife", "homestead", and "reject modernity embrace tradition" content online is another symptom of this too. There may be more of us who don't want this stuff, but we don't control the algorithms anymore.

In every reactionary traditionalist counter-revolution, fashion and aesthetics play a huge role. From Nazis banning "degenerate" art, to men in post-revolution Iran bringing back beards and traditional dress. Pay attention to this, and support your local punks, queers, and creatives of all stripes.

Super low bar, I know, but Meta, Wordpress/Blogger, Substack, and Medium all fail on at least one count.

Looking for a place to post *long form* life updates, photos, stuff I've made, musings, etc that 1) has a community and reasonable number of active users 2) is easy to join, read, and comment without paywalls or tech skills, and 3) has zero tolerate slurs or hate speech. Any suggestions?
