to be fair, the same goes for fan art
if you don't interact with people, your work might be barely noticed (especially if there is a huge wave of other works). socializing is an important key to spreading your work in any case + it can be fun

— "draw for yourself" is bullshit when we’re not talking about a hobby, but about work as an artist or about trying to feel important and significant through what you do.

— you can also lose success for reasons beyond your control (algorithm changes, world events, etc.). you either adapt, accept it or simply stop promoting your social media;

(but if you somehow figure out how to influence platform policies or the world in general... invite me to the barricades)

— survivorship bias exists;
— social interaction is crucial for promotion. if you’re not drawing fan art or trending topics, this becomes even more important;
— you can invest a huge amount of time in social media and still achieve nothing;

— don’t put other artists down just because you think your skill is higher, their topics are overused or they’re not interesting to you personally. envy isn't a good look;
— yes, people might like your sketch more than the finished piece. for many, simpler visuals are easier to process;

Hello!! I would like to do a snap commission today.
They will be:
- full body starting at 30 USD
- 40 USD for minimal colour/shading
- 4 slots this time
- Any species/gender/body type but please note I'm not primarily a furry artist <3

I’ve also noticed that spending less time on social media really reduces my stress. sure, I might miss out on a lot of memes and news, but they’re not worth my mental health anyway.

it's one of the weirdest things for me...

I draw commissions knowing there’s at least one person (my client) who I’m making happy. and when I draw my OCs, I love receiving validation too =/ there’s no shame in that. we’re human. we live in a society.

I really hate big artists' advice like "draw for yourself". naaah. if I were do something purely for myself, I'd probably just watch two-hour videos of beautiful Armenian man making silly jokes.

actually, we could chat on Discord or maybe hop into LoL's voice chat!
but I’m really sorry in advance if I start mixing Ukrainian, Danish or Kazakh into the conversation. my brain is a mess.

the only thing AI has done for me is make me stop watching short videos because of my paranoia and now it’s actually easier to work. I can stay focused much longer without constantly switching to other things.
