25.09.2025 12:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Happy birthday, Mr. Faulkner!
We are delighted to share the Call for Papers for our next colloquium, celebrating the 90th anniversary of Absalom, Absalom!'s publication.
May 2nd and 3rd, 2026, online via Zoom (more info in the image below).
On this day in 1910, Quentin Compson drowned in the odour of honeysuckle after leaping into the Charles River.
While Quentin's tragedy is fiction, over 700,000 people die by suicide each year. Consider donating to CALM and other mental health charities.

Amazing! Warmest congratulations!
11.04.2025 19:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If Absalom! was published today, Faulkner would have to add a content note decrying Sutpen's actions because heaven forbid readers think critically about the work they're encountering. Hypersensitivity towards "offence" in culture and the academy is excruciatingly infantilising.

William Faulkner said he wrote the novel from midnight to 4:00 a.m. within six weeks. He claimed not having ever changed a word of it.
The title for Seth Haverkampβs βLight in Augustβ comes from the William Faulkner novel of the same name. Haverkamp has been exceedingly interested in creating backgrounds with more depth and a sense of wonder.
