I have written the first 8 chapters. I think I'm about 25% of the way through my first draft. It's the first time I've got this far without losing the will to live. 50% by the end of the month? or is that crazy? đ¤Ŗ

First book I have read by Megan Lindholm aka Robin Hobb. I don't think it will be the last!

The fourth book of a quadrilogy. It's hard to complain about how it ended (sensitive and important topic, handled powerfully). It's also hard to see how this is the natural culmination of the story so far?
So.
YA / historical fiction / elements of the fantastical / romance... holocaust.

Incidentally, my new year's resolution last year was to finish the year with a shorter TBR list than I had at the start. I've cut it down from 343 to 319 (having read 158 books according to Storygraph - which I think is a clue to my book buying habits!)
Can I get to<300 by 2027?!
Love, Greeks, fighting and a grumpy sea nymph.
Classic story, beautifully retold. But where was the horse?! đ

#vss365 Mars
There is only one temple in this town. Nobody cares enough about harvests or love or justice or even healing to dedicate so much as a household shrine to anyone but Mars.
I don't go there.
My clinic is my shrine.
I sacrifice there.
Every day.
I have decided to write a book.
Tomorrow I will start chapter 1. It has a bear trap in it.
That is all.
PS am I one of the #skywriters now?
This was fun!
M/M romantasy romp with the usual dash of brutal gore; minimal spice (plenty of innuendo, no real action).

One more thing.
Then I'll stop, before I get carried away?
A remedy for any questions about Poe
đđđĻââŦ
My first Dupin story. Maybe I'll read more, but.... So far I'm feeling that Sherlock Holmes is better?
Although, Poe....
đđđЏđđđ
Scottish. Witches. Murders. A dragon.
Romantasy done right?
đđđĒđđЏđ
đđđĒđ
Ursula LeGuin is like the opposite of romantasy. I mean, it's still fantasy, and there are still people with love stories. But apart from that.
Ah, will I ever be able to read normal books again?
I've read so much romantasy over the last few weeks, my eyes are starting to bleed....
ACOTAR
Realm Breaker
Blood of Hercules
Dire Bound
Fourth Wing
One Dark Window
đđđâ¤ī¸đđĒđ
(That's just the ones I read to the end.)
Light and breezy?
Romantasy is BRUTAL, people.
Brutal!
In the run up to year end, I'm keeping my reading list breezy....
I'm going to read some Romantasy... Recommendations? I finished ACOTAR last week and wasn't impressed. I'm reading Fourth Wing now: so far that's much better.
What else is a must read?
Self recommendations accepted!

Solid grisly murder mystery slash police procedural, with bones and science. Plus it's set in the French bit of Canada.
Can't go wrong...
đđâĄ
Book club read, so no spoilers.
But I really enjoyed this atmospheric story, with its ambiguity and swirling narratives đĒđģđđ
Who doesn't love a bit of eighteenth century gothic romance, sprinkled liberally with poems?
Ghosts! Banditti! Peril! Murder!
đđđī¸đ
Near the end is a journal entry dated 30 October and I got very excited because I thought the climax would come on 31 October, and I was going to save the last bit to read tomorrow.
But the next entry was dated 1 November so I thought I might as well finish it today đ¤Ŗ

A vampire classic.
It's really good!
(much better than I expected if I'm honest)
October finally Underway â¤ī¸đЏâ¤ī¸
Why is this author not more widely read? Honestly I'd never heard of her before this year....
This book was witty, charming and very readable.
Elizabeth's musings on life and gardening and Other People are just delightful. Admittedly, nothing much happens, but sometimes that's best.
đĒģđđđī¸đđĒģ
It's time for another reading list!
It's October again so I'm focussing on the obvious:
1. Dracula (Stoker)
2. Interview with a Vampire (Rice)
3. The Lamplighters (Emma Stonex)
4. A Sicilian Romance (Radcliffe)

That'll do - I also have a new job!
I've read some genuinely terrible books recently. This one was actually very enjoyable so here we are:
I was lucky enough to pick it up as a freebie and once my TBR is under 300 I might even pay money for the next book in the series.
đđ
I do enjoy a nice, cosy medieval/Tudor murder mystery...
đđđđ
This book was clumsy in parts but in other ways it was great... Not sure whether to recommend or not. I'm glad I read it. That's all I have.
đđ
I'm going to see this at The Globe tomorrow night (yayy!) and I have just finished reading it. Super farcical and one of the LGBTQ-est Shakespearean plays there is!
đđđī¸đđŗī¸âđ
Loved this one!
My book club amigas didn't like it (long, boring, no real plot, no proper ending...) but -
I loved its scale and scope and the blend of historical truths and magical realist vibes. The writing was beautiful, too.
đđđī¸đ
I'd never even heard of Elizabeth von Arnim but I came across this book and I'm definitely going to read more!
She's witty but also cosy, and this 1920s story about 4 strangers sharing a holiday in an Italian castle has stolen my heart.
đđđī¸đ
Strange, beautiful, a little bit creepy, and a glimpse of what love is all about... If you hated Moby Dick, read this instead. It's nothing like Moby Dick.
đđđī¸đ
I was lucky to get this as a freebie (see, not all freebies are junk!)
And it worked because now her other titles are on my wishlist!
Wilde's prison essay, a beautiful if slightly disquieting read.
