I will never forget that moment. I will never forget the hatred, demonization and lies, and the political "leaders" who spouted them. And today, no small number of those people are leading the governing coalition in Israel.

It was my friends calling to tell me the horrible news that Yitzhak Rabin had been shot. Not yet knowing who had shot him, I packed up to go back to my army unit and the war that I assumed was imminent. There was no immediate war then, but for 30 years, there is also no peace.

30 years ago today was one of the worst days of my life. I was a soldier in the IDF, but was visiting my parents in the US. I remember sitting in my parents shomer Shabbat house as the phone started ringing and ringing.
