Hello! Here is a drawing I finished 12/14/23 of a Downy Woodpecker, and the reference image I used was taken by @atomicallisto.bsky.social. They have this drawing as well :) This was one of the first inked bird drawings I did, having previously drawn more chalk birds.

It's found with a second, similar looking one near it, (which bears the same Green head feathers, light-brown circular cheek & dark bill/orange spotting- save for its breast, belly and flanks which instead resemble a Female Mallard more closely).

A side profile of what would seem to be a common and adult Mallard Drake, aside from certain color alterations. Its cheek does not continue in the same Green color and instead displays a circular dot- as large as half its face. The bill displays dark colorization at its base until a small blotting of orange at the tip, which is also unusual. Various more mallards rest behind it in their common plumages.

Any experts to weigh in on this?
This Mallard local to me is a hot topic.
Some were mentioning a Mallard x Gadwall hybrid, aka a "Brewer's Duck".
Others mentioned the possibility of an Intersex bird.
What I understand to be an outlier to either possibility is general color morphism.

This is just gorgeous.

Digital drawing of multiple ospreys. Only some of the head and neck was drawn and the birds have a stylized look to them. The top most left bird is looking directly as the viewer. The bottom left bird is side-eyeing the viewer and the bird next to him is looking off to the right of the screen in a side view profile. The birds are inked digitally with black and a sort of watercolor brush was used to add in the colored parts to the birds such as yellow eyes and some areas of brown and grey. The artist added their dignature and the year they made the artwork in the bottom most right corner of the page.
