The Cuban government is now reporting that, actually, three people are dead and seven were injured... After one of the "detainees" was actually in Miami. This is all very strange!

Currently contemplating this piece I have from Miami legend Purvis Young, in which he drew on an Iranian anti-Shah protest flyer that took place in Miami in 1978. It drew about 10,000 people.

My dad was there and he tells me this was the single most impressive demonstration he ever saw in Miami.

Then after that, yes of course you can give the legal rational behind launching a war. But before the legal rational should come undisputed facts.

The only way that any outlet should be writing "preemptive strike" is 14 paragraphs down in the story once you have laid out all the context of the 2015 deal, the ongoing negotiations that per Oman were on the brink of a new deal, the 2025 strikes that "obliterated" Iran's capabilities and whatnot.

Thr thing about the "deal" is that we had a multilateral deal in 2015 and it was not perfect but Iran was in full compliance, and virtually the only people that did not approve of the deal was the US Republican Party and Israel, and now - because they broke the deal - those 2 parties launched a war.

This is exactly the kind of first amendment attack pioneered by the 2021 Florida law that made it a felony to promote an event of three or more people that police later define as a "riot," even tho there's no clear definition of riot.

We're still trying to suss some things out about what happened.

But there is very very good reason to doubt the Cuban government's account, especially when they say someone was arrested and then that same person does an interview in Miami.

Two were already on a Cuban "terrorist" list. One just posted a video rant indicating he would do something violent.

Another "detainee" is ... actually in Miami right now.

I guess you can say it's old fashioned libertarianism or anarchism, but I don't believe governments on either side of the Straits of Florida should be telling Cuban people how we can/should interact with each other. That's been our reality my whole life. But I use that as my frame of reference.

I went to school with Armando Valladares' kids. My dad worked at Radio Martí (US radio broadcasts to Cuba) from 1983 until like 2021. I grew up in those studios in DC. I was born into this.

But know this - I am extremely critical of US policy towards the island and Cuban-Americans overall.

The government posted those things last year, and presumably has them both in custody right now (with friends).

Amijail Sánchez González was placed on the list because he was connected to "the arrest of a Cuban resident in the United States who introduced firearms, ammunition and other equipment along the northern coast of the province of Matanzas, Cuba with the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts."

This happens nearly 30 years to the day after the Cuban military shot down two Brothers to the Rescue planes, which led to Congress writing the Embargo into law.

The Cuban Coast Guard killed 4 and injured 6 passengers of a Florida-registered boat this morning, after Cuban officials say the boat opened fire. They gave Florida boat registration number.

I asked the US Coast Guard for any info on the vessel; they told me to ask the State Department, so I have.

I really can't understand it either

It makes me happy that they're getting paid more. That is hard work that really really makes a difference to society, and it should really make a difference for the workers too, the same way it made a difference for my grandfather.
