Donald Trump may want to just rip a huge wing off of a building that is on the national historic registry, but I would prefer her to keep mine standing.

The final piece of this is if I was going to replace these, I wanted to do it as soon as possible because winter is on its way, the boxes are not gonna heal themselves, and the priority was urgent and important.

Paying good money for a good handyman who does things the right way is priceless.

If I had had someone just install the bath heater, I would’ve had a heater, but it probably would’ve tripped the breaker which might’ve burned out and things could’ve gone very badly from there.

when he moved away, he referred me to my current guy, Mark. Marc specializes in hand hewn and custom buildings and is truly a woodwork craftsman. Because he is diligent and wants things done properly, he called Kevin, is master Electrician friend.

And the propane gas vent broke off and will be replaced Tuesday.

When they were done in power came back on I realize that the propane heat has a pilot light and so I learned how to relight that tonight.

They also wanted the back of the box as flush with the outside shingles as possible; and the previous one had been slightly recessed so they backed the opening with plywood.

There were some other quirks such as the shrub that was growing up around the main incoming electrical line.

The plan is to test all the outlets and switches and if any of those need to be rewired, we will, but we overcame the biggest hurdle today.

Because we replaced the box, we had to do some minor renovations to the siding; this box was about a foot bigger.

nothing in this house is easy and so that took a couple of hours.

Am I rewiring the house? No.

But all the wires (which I have fondly named the Flying Spaghetti Monster) remained.

Everything past that bundle of wires that came to the breaker box was replaced.

and another under the transom window in the dining room. The guys had to run new wiring for the two heaters and thermostats. This turned out to be challenging in several ways (hours) - this is an 1867 log cabin with a 1920s addition that was renovated in 1960.

So to get around the problem of heat in the bathroom, I (aka not me) am putting one radiant heater in the bathroom …

and they were not pretty.

He prefers GE products, both breaker boxes are probably about 30 years old and the breakers were junkie with old wasp and spiderwebs.

He very strongly recommended replacing both, and I had to get the electric company involved for the load that the barn will have.

They also pulled out a fistful of about seven or 10 wires that weren’t needed and might’ve been a hazard.
