Basically, I am learning to expand my critical view by looking at world literature, works seen through translation and the lens of other cultures, and what is lost and gained through a text's translatability or intranslatability...

if the writing moves one so deeply, surely there must be some aesthetic quality that is worthy to take seriously?

But with all due respect to Hemingway's brilliance, why should Hemingway (among dozens of other big Anglophone writers in the 1910s and 1920s) make this argument about Dostoevsky's "bad writing", if he goes on to praise the spirit of his work and its impact?
