Corollary: in a generation, widget grunts will be the denizens of a silicon "rust belt," filled with rage towards "liberal arts elites" and easily mobilized by a populist demagogue who is invested in continued disinvestment from the liberal arts

over and over they say it out loud: big ideas for the elite class, and only widget grunts for the working people.

ideas are for everybody. art is for everybody. education is for everybody.

UI African American, Gender Studies faculty prepare for program closures University of Iowa faculty in African American Studies and Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies are preparing for closure of their programs following a review of "low-enrollment" degrees and majors ...

The closing of African American Studies and GWSS at Iowa is absolutely heartbreaking. It is such an important time to study these subjects. Words really cannot express how upsetting this decision is. www.thegazette.com/higher-educa...

If you donate to the Arbor Foundation right now they will send you 10 free bare-root trees for planting in your area OR they can plant 20 in a forest that needs them.

In case you need trees or like them.

Kentucky Meat Shower - Muleskinner Press has been my flagship, long-running project since 2018 or so. It began as a Substack to update people on what writing I had put

really bad at promo but here's my main project: a long-running outgrowth of a substack I turned into an ezine called Kentucky Meat Shower. Explanation of this unwieldy project here.

Right?! Such a great thing to have at the festival. The art prof who created the festival is at Transylvania U. Near Lexington, where they keep the specimen and they let him take it to the county museum on a loan. Pretty neat to get a photo with it.
