We look forward to welcoming our new director soon and bidding a fond farewell to our current director, Simone Lässig, whose ten-year term is ending in a few weeks.

Each director brings a new research focus, in Professor von Hirschhausen’s case empires and their legacies, a topic she has explored in the books “Empires: Eine globale Geschichte 1780–1920” (2023) and “Frozen Conflicts: Brennpunkte der Gegenwart zwischen Krieg und Frieden“ (forthcoming).
