Wow! Ours (Gloucestershire) are not quite there yet - just a few very bedraggled ones.

Beautiful Green Hellebore, Helleborus viridis, in woodland on the edge of Croydon. πŸ’š It is a member of the Ranunculaceae, the Buttercup family. What look like green petals are in fact sepals, and the petals themselves are reduced to small tubular nectaries (visible in third photo). #WildflowerHour

Hazel catkins and one tiny, red female flower, in a rare moment earlier this week when it wasn’t raining and the air was still. #Gloucestershire #wildflowerhour

Tree of the week: an old oak on a Gloucestershire lane.

Endless rain and grey skies, not much wildlife about, but possibly the best time of year to admire old trees in the landscape?

Impressed with your pristine celandine. I’ve spotted a few in Gloucestershire this week, but all very battered!

The unexpected Isles of Scilly Island nature beyond the seals and seabirds.

The seals and seabirds are wonderful, but this week I’ve written about some of the less conspicuous nature I encountered in these magical isles. stillinthewild.substack.com/p/the-unexpe...

My first sighting of a large emerald moth. Beautifully marked, scalloped-edge wings, about 5cm across. Definite highlight of summer moth-trapping in Gloucestershire.
