Other than that I have no real idea what riot wants out of Demacia. I legitimately don’t think anyone who works there likes them outside of those who specifically only like the mage champs

I think a possible scenario is that we have now gone through the “do you get that they’re not the good guys?” part and will now get a “self-flagellation” part where the magism is “gone” but it’ll be focused on how the best thing about non mage Demacia is how they feel bad about themselves

Obv subject to details if/when it comes out but it basically would confirm for me that, yes, the last 10 years of lore for this region was completely and utterly a waste of time and that we could have had an actually good lore if we just started right here and dispense with the xmen nonsense.

I have thoughts about some certain potential leaks about a future champion from a potential knightly region and I have to say I feel vindicated for being right about everything for years, but only in a depressed and exasperated kind of way.

Most of this issue could be summed up with that image rly. How things shape up next will heavily influence what we’re supposed to glean from it.

Idk I still wouldn't say it's much a challenge. Everyone in HBOs Rome, Tony soprano, Walter white, the penguin, Paul atreides, Tyrion Lannister, the punisher, Dr doom, everyone in blood meridian, every mob movie ever, everyone in mad men. People engage with motivated characters not moral characters.

I really don’t think it’s that hard. As long as you avoid certain kinds of bad behavior that are taboo, people really don’t care and are easily able to follow a narrative on a not good person as long as they’re a motivated, active one.

The empire is bad because imperialism is bad white or not, but Riot doesn't see it as an empire *because* of the diversity angle. They see it as a sandbox to valorize their irl political beliefs around racial "inclusivity". This is fitting given that the modern lore was written in the mid 2010s

I agree if what you are getting at is that the whole diversity angle is a way to live out a power fantasy of cool bad*ss empire in a way that doesn't offend the riots/the writers "liberal" neuroticisms, but I think it's misguided to say Noxus is secretly white and that's why its imperialism is bad

Noxus was specifically designed as the “diversity, inclusivity, and meritocracy” region in the lore even if the champ designs hadn’t actually caught up yet. It was made as such because the writers at that time had a specific mandate of “we need people to not think Noxians are the bad guys anymore”

That’s just splitting hairs based on the awkwardness of most human champs being white prior to 2015 which was also when the foundational lore for the regions we see today were established. The official Noxus foundation was released in 2018 but they didn’t get a new human champ till 2020
