When I say that Slim's monologue in Sinners isn't a treatise for the movie but people just want to dismiss the importance of black congregation-ism because it aligns with their ideological priors

22.07.2025 16:51 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0They're just saying that Ionia used to not be a mess of orientalist trauma fetishism but that everyone and everything we know in the entire region in the present are lame and stupid who all need to go through an arc to stop being orientalist trash. which is... barely an improvement /2
24.06.2025 22:39 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Feels a bit vindicating that with Yunara's VO riot on some level realizes that the lore they wrote for Ionia is orientalist/infantilizing af and want to kind of change that. But also kind of a poison pill because they aren't actually changing Ionia to be not an orientalist mess of trauma fetishism/1

Riot writing at its finest.
Man. Riot just makes Demacians seem so cowardly and feckless. Why do they do this all the time? It just bums me out so much. The royal guards couldn’t bear the thought of even getting off the fking boat? Really?
Why does riot write Demacians as such fking losers all the time
Dont' forget this random dig at Xin's Demacian title because... idk. I guess titles are bad
14.05.2025 21:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I really wish Riot would just like, do something with Demacians that wasn't just constantly just reiterating "They hate magic"
They have one playbook when it comes to Demacia it seems and it's real tiresome. Or at the very least see what Viktor did in Arcane and let Demacians go "I told you so" lol

18.04.2025 06:12 — 👍 33 🔁 12 💬 0 📌 0The awkwardness in the way that I 100% think/expect riot to mess up any kind of Ionia vs Noxus plot with some kind of orientalist, "muh moral ambiguity" garbage about how Ionians bad & imperialism isn't actually Noxus' fault, but not in the same way that people who harp on Arcane being "centrist" do
17.04.2025 21:49 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0There's probably a cohort at rito that I think wants to "fix" Demacia, but they're just as Xmen pilled as the people who hate Demacia so their definition of "fixing" is likely to be just. Self-flagellation. Forever.
16.04.2025 16:35 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Other than that I have no real idea what riot wants out of Demacia. I legitimately don’t think anyone who works there likes them outside of those who specifically only like the mage champs
16.04.2025 02:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think a possible scenario is that we have now gone through the “do you get that they’re not the good guys?” part and will now get a “self-flagellation” part where the magism is “gone” but it’ll be focused on how the best thing about non mage Demacia is how they feel bad about themselves
16.04.2025 02:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Obv subject to details if/when it comes out but it basically would confirm for me that, yes, the last 10 years of lore for this region was completely and utterly a waste of time and that we could have had an actually good lore if we just started right here and dispense with the xmen nonsense.
01.04.2025 16:45 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I have thoughts about some certain potential leaks about a future champion from a potential knightly region and I have to say I feel vindicated for being right about everything for years, but only in a depressed and exasperated kind of way.

02.03.2025 15:03 — 👍 122 🔁 42 💬 0 📌 0Idk I still wouldn't say it's much a challenge. Everyone in HBOs Rome, Tony soprano, Walter white, the penguin, Paul atreides, Tyrion Lannister, the punisher, Dr doom, everyone in blood meridian, every mob movie ever, everyone in mad men. People engage with motivated characters not moral characters.
01.03.2025 23:06 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I really don’t think it’s that hard. As long as you avoid certain kinds of bad behavior that are taboo, people really don’t care and are easily able to follow a narrative on a not good person as long as they’re a motivated, active one.
01.03.2025 17:40 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Denji is ironically very bad at actively building connections with people. So far he’s mostly just had people being thrust upon him to make connections. He’s seldom been put in a situation where he's had to actively consider someone else's position. He cares a lot but it's a passive kind of care

25.02.2025 22:22 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I liked that it wasn't the segs that conveyed a sense of "it's meaningful and ours" (as it is them pantomiming what happened to them) rather the spontaneous kiss in the hallway after. Which ironically is the original act of intimacy that Helena first became obsessed with and *still* doesn't have
21.02.2025 19:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Take any take that relies on affirming their own political ideological priors with a grain of salt.
Anyone with a passing awareness of chronically online neurotic fandom trends can tell you that people like villains over heroes largely because they're extravagant and most importantly *motivated*
The empire is bad because imperialism is bad white or not, but Riot doesn't see it as an empire *because* of the diversity angle. They see it as a sandbox to valorize their irl political beliefs around racial "inclusivity". This is fitting given that the modern lore was written in the mid 2010s
18.02.2025 16:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I agree if what you are getting at is that the whole diversity angle is a way to live out a power fantasy of cool bad*ss empire in a way that doesn't offend the riots/the writers "liberal" neuroticisms, but I think it's misguided to say Noxus is secretly white and that's why its imperialism is bad
18.02.2025 16:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Noxus was specifically designed as the “diversity, inclusivity, and meritocracy” region in the lore even if the champ designs hadn’t actually caught up yet. It was made as such because the writers at that time had a specific mandate of “we need people to not think Noxians are the bad guys anymore”
17.02.2025 18:25 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0That’s just splitting hairs based on the awkwardness of most human champs being white prior to 2015 which was also when the foundational lore for the regions we see today were established. The official Noxus foundation was released in 2018 but they didn’t get a new human champ till 2020
