Historical perspective stinks sometimes. In 1941 Japan was negotiating with Washington to resolve conflicts about US sanctions right up to Dec 5th.
On the 7th you may have heard they bombed Pearl Harbor without warning.
Trump has done the same thing to Iran.
Good morning, Bluesky!

27.02.2026 18:24 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Part 1/3 of a 7-panel SMBC comic update. A young man approaches his grandfather, asking for his opinion regarding strategies posted online to get the most girls. This prompts the old man to shout "Amateurs!" and to continue saying "they're putting in infinite effort to have a moderate amount of okay sex with 20 year olds! Do you have any notion what it's like to have your 70 year olf wife come home plastered from wine and bingo night?"
Part 2/3 of a 7-panel SMBC comic update. The old man continues to describe the horror and ecstasy that comes from learned skill, stating that it takes 40 years of marriage to receive properly. He gets seemingly more heated as he describes his situation, saddening the young man.
Part 3/3 of a 7-panel SMBC comic update. In the final panel, the young man says "I'll never look at grammy the same way," to which his grandfather replies "we don't make a lot of eye contact anymore, yeah."
SMBC is just propaganda for longterm relationships.

I’ve owned at least three LL Bean Black Watch flannel shirts.
Never ironically
You’re absolutely correct about the difference between them and the current crop of Gravy Team Six wannabes

I wasn’t aware that they were funded and organized by the state. I was under the impression they were local volunteer groups self organized with elected leaders.
I could easily be mistaken.
Now, yes. In the 18th century things were much different

The biggest modern disconnect is that the “milita” then wasn’t a bunch of guys cosplaying GI Joe. In the South most especially it included Slave Patrols specifically designed to prevent and quell slave uprisings.
Without that basic understanding the arguments about the founders intent is vapid

I’ve been a listener for a long time. I’ve always been fascinated with history and your approachable style and historical rigor has been a treat.
The slavery focus in Past Lives has been both fascinating and heartbreaking.
We need this clarity now more than ever
