As end-of-empire scenarios go it is so much more dignified to get your capital city sacked by the Visigoths than to have a bunch of illiterate rich people in their 70s doing it through a series of incomprehensible tantrums because their brains were defeated by their phones.

My copy of Gutter magazine just arrived. So cool to see my piece in it. It’s a memoir type thing about my great aunt and her remarkable siblings. And her house which was called Lepanto and was at the centre of my childhood. Can’t wait to read the other pieces.

Five articles with fake references found in the British Educational Research Journal They are not good papers

If we allow our flagship journals to fill with AI slop (presumably pushing out excellent or at least competent work in the process) then we are making a better case for our marginalisation than any critic ever could.

I'm very glad to be appearing at this year's Wigtown Book Festival on Sunday 5 October. Please do come along, if you can. I hope to post a list, soon, of all my forthcoming events – in Scotland and England – in connection with Upon A White Horse. tickets.wigtownbookfestival.com/sales/events...

Also, we’d only ever have inservice days if we were to be given the necessary ‘training’ for much of what we’re doing.

Hate the first paragraph as it’s just waffle.

We don’t need more ‘training’ to meet the expectations placed on us, we need to reduce those expectations.

If we only had one pupil in each of our classes, we’d still not have sufficient resources to meet all of the demands placed upon us.

As someone who studies how racism & ableism harm kids of color-this is going exactly as expected.

Black & Brown kids are already over represented in special education, specifically emotional & behavioral disabilities-and will be the ones who will be subjected to racist AI generated behavior plans

Would a SAFE ROUTE WORK to stop Channel crossings?
YouTube video by Zoe Gardner Would a SAFE ROUTE WORK to stop Channel crossings?

Providing safe routes to reach the UK is the only logical, evidence-based way to stop people travelling through irregular means.

Last night Ben Kentish challenged me on @lbc.co.uk on how that would work & whether A MILLION BILLION PEOPLE might come😱 www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al4R...

Yup. As I am constantly saying.

People say they want far less immigration when polled because they have been led to believe that immigration is primarily a small boats phenomemon.
I try to push back but jesus, they're funded by fucking billionaires.

Isn’t this just the result of the (poorly regulated) convergence of politics & capitalism? Like why the junk food industry is so successful or why cigarettes once were so popular. Find people’s weaknesses & relentlessly exploit them for profit or power. Bad faith actors thrive.

A political cartoon by Megan Herbert depicting an obliterated Gazan landscape in the background and a sundial in the foreground. The arm of the dial is depicted as the outline of Gaza. The time markers read "DO SOMETHING", "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", "INTERVENE NOW", "TIME IS RUNNING OUT" and "TOO LATE". The shadow cast by the sundial arm has past "running out of time" and fast approaching "too late".

I have a new article out in the Chartered College of Teaching journal Impact, called ‘Embedding AI in education: A critique’. Here I make five main points, which I will helpfully plop in this thread for those without access or time to read it.

Clay Christensen:

“Questions are places in your mind where answers fit. If you haven’t asked the question, the answer has nowhere to go. It hits your mind and bounces right off. You have to ask the question – you have to want to know – in order to open up the space for the answer to fit.”
