The President of the United States is so upset about his failed campaign for a Nobel Prize that he's now trying to claim someone else's prize as his own.

Pathetic.

Neguse: "Does anyone here not believe that with one phone call from Speaker Johnson -- one phone call to the president or the secretary of ag -- that those funds would be released tomorrow? And that families wouldn't go starving by the weekend?"

Thatโ€™s fair. His recommendations and boosting of other artists was always a good thing. Hell, once upon a time I had a writing blog he retweeted. I was a huge fan. Like, drove 12 hours for his book tour huge.

I wish now it didnโ€™t feel like he was prepping new potential victims in the process.

Cost to fund SNAP and keep 42 million people from starving:

$100 billion

Cost of lost revenue due to tax cuts for the richest Americans in the top 1%:

$100 billion

One is decried as "welfare." One is not.

Why?

No Marine I know gave AF because they all swore an Oath to our Nation that including "Up to and including my life." F*ck JD Vance and his prissy Yale Imperialistic view of America.

Vance in drag!

JD Vance changed his name, dressed in drag, married an immigrant, benefited from food stamps and was groomed by a neurotic, gay elitist.

None of this matters except heโ€™s a dick who attacks everyone for all the same stuff heโ€™s done. Hypocrites!

I've seen the Ursula K LeGuin quote about capitalism going aroun but to really appreciate it you have to know the context.

The year is 2014. She has been given a lifetime achievement awar from the National Book Awards. Neil Gaiman puts it on her neck ir front of a crowd of booksellers who bankrolled the event, and it's t to make a standard "thank you for this award, insert story here, something about diversity, blah blah blah" speech. She starts off doing just that, thanking her friends and fellow authors. All is well.

Then this old lady from Oregon looks her audience of executives d in the eye, and says "Developing written material to suit sales strategies in order to maximize corporate profit and advertising revenue is not the same thing as responsible book publishing or authorship."
She rails against the reduction of her art to a commodity producer only for profit. She denounces publishers who overcharge libraries their products and censor writers in favor of something "more profitable". She specifically denounces Amazon and its business practices, knowing full well that her audience is filled with Amazor employees. And to cap it off, she warns them: "We live in capitalis Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.

Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the of words."

Ursula K LeGuin got up in front of an audience of some of the mos powerful people in publishing, was expected to give a trite and politically safe argument about literature, and instead told them directly "Your empire will fall. And I will help it along."

Neil Gaiman was always the fuckboi of blurbs, I swear.

His narcissism makes him want his name on every book possible - even if it wasnโ€™t his work. Marking his territory like some demented dog.

Iโ€™m the only person in my department with AI training, and also the only one who doesnโ€™t use it because I know how fallible it is. Itโ€™s upsetting.

Our military is being paid by an anonymous donor.

Our WH East Wing was demolished for a ballroom - paid for by donors.

These arenโ€™t acts of benevolence or patriotism.

This is the oligarchy assuming control, insidiously becoming part of how we function.

Every American should reject it.

WOW: The White House says the president's MAIN PRIORITY is his BALLROOM. SNAP is ending. Subsidies for health care are gong to double and in some instances quadruple plan premiums. The government is shut down. The cost of living is through the roof. And his priority is his ballroom.

Remove Speaker Johnson. File a motion to vacate the chair Text SIGN PPSQYP to 50409 โ€” I write to ask you to file a motion to vacate the Chair of the House of Representatives. It's appalling that Mike Johnson has not had the House in session for the majority of the time it should be working. In any other workplace, your salary would be docked or your contract terminated for failing to do the job you were hired for. It's an assault on democracy for Johnson to refuse to swear in Adelita Grivalja. He's depriving her constituents of their fair representation and services. Representation is part of constitutional order, it's not at the whim of the speaker. Johnson gives every impression of trying to prevent the release of the Epstein files. We demand to know what's in them. He should not be protecting pedophiles and abusers. Under House Rule IX, any member may file a Motion to Vacate the Chair โ€” the lawful process to remove a Speaker who abuses power or obstructs oversight. Johnson is doing both. It takes just one line: "Resolved, That the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant." I request that you file such a motion without delay. I would like a written reply to tell me your views about Johnson's conduct as speaker and your adherence to your oath to the constitution and whether you think the residents of Grivalja's district are less worthy of representation than your own constituents.

๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ โ€œRemove Speaker Johnson. File a motion to vacate the chairโ€ hit 250 signers!

American farmers are hurting. Trump's trade war is making it worse Farmers are struggling this fall despite a bountiful harvest. Production costs are high, crop prices are low and the trade war has closed off one of their biggest markets.

Farm bankruptcies are up 56% from last year.

More than half of U.S. farms are losing money, threatening small towns and rural economies.

Trump's focus? Using U.S. taxpayer dollars for a $40 BILLION bailout to Argentina.
