As nothing but an outside observer to it, a pure voting system for anything revolving around skill is just asking for trouble!

I've seen this type of shit in many different communities

But when + is seen as a status symbol, the votes make perfect sense. +2 doesn't care if you have the potential to grow, or even whether you have already shown your skill (flingking won vs ftwin ffs). +2 only cares about whether you are "worthy" of the title. That mindset is holding the scene back.
