03.12.2024 16:49 β π 23 π 9 π¬ 0 π 0If you have a chance to see Leslie Odom live, take it! From Christmas classics to his original songs to his signature song from "Hamilton," the man didn't miss a note. Smooth and clear tone, pure falsetto, and amazing stage presence.
5 stars. Highly recommend ππΏ
7/7 [After receiving an HIV diagnosis] "I'll never be able to have children"
People living with HIV can have HIV-negative children. It requires planning but can be safely done.
6/7 [After receiving an HIV diagnosis] "My life is over"
For many people, receiving an HIV diagnosis can be the beginning of a journey to improving their overall health and wellness. People living with HIV and are on treatment can live long lives, just like people who are not living with HIV.
5/7 [After receiving an HIV diagnosis] "Now I am a statistic"
Never diminish yourself to a number. You are still a human being. You are valued. Your life has purpose and meaning.
4/7 "PrEP is only for gay people"
PrEP is for any HIV-negative person who is having sex w/o condoms with sexual partners, has HIV+ partner, or has had a STI in the past 6 months.
PrEP, is the process of taking medication, either pills or injection, to prevent HIV infection. It's ~ 99% effective.
3/7 "I'm not gay, so I don't need to worry about HIV."
HIV is not a gay disease. 22% of new HIV diagnoses are due to heterosexual contact. (2022, CDC).
2/7 "I don't think it [HIV] can happen to me."
As long as you are having sex, you can be exposed to HIV.
1/7 "I'm married, so I don't need to think about any of that."
Remember, your sexual health is YOUR responsibility.
Marriage/relationships are not a HIV prevention plan.
As long as you're having sex, you should continue getting tested for HIV regularly and consider HIV prevention options.
Today is World AIDS Day, so I'm going to share a few common misconceptions that I hear in clinic and my responses. A thread π§΅
01.12.2024 17:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't fear confrontation or crucial conversations.
The potential impact of things left unsaid between two people is far scarier.
I hate when daylight savings time ends. All of a sudden, 5:15pm feels like midnight.

Slept 8.5 hours last night. ππΏ
Quick reminder that 7 - 9 hours of sleep per night is the goal for adults.
Sleep duration + sleep quality impact life expectancy, risk for chronic diseases, and more.
Prioritize sleep, folks. ππ΄π€
The memories! Thank you for the reminder @doctorcarlton.bsky.social. We need a reunion soon! ππΏ

27.11.2024 16:07 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Moderated a panel at the ANAC conference yesterday. One thing that stuck with me was the reminder to healthcare providers of the vulnerability of being a patient. The feeling of knowing that someone else holds your results in their hands and the way they deliver those results can be life-changing.
