The attack on Australia’s net zero target is reckless and gutless. Voters expect more than ‘intergenerational bastardry’ | Zoe Daniel While Barnaby Joyce and Michael McCormack try to ditch the 43% net zero 2030 emissions target, Australia’s net zero target for 2035 has not yet been set “Renewables continue to prove themselves as the most cost-competitive source of new electricity generation,” says a new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency. It has caused the UN secretary general, António Guterres, to declare: “We are on the cusp of a new era. Fossil fuels are running out of road. The sun is rising on a clean energy age.” Continue reading...

I am wondering what happened to the QLD government co-funded Tesla Chargers between Mackay & Rockhampton at St Lawrence. It was there in the original document but seems to have dropped off since.

The IEA chart says it all: as Chinese EV imports rise, prices fall—fast.

Thailand and Australia have now hit battery electric vehicle (BEV) price parity with internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. That milestone was once thought to be years away—until China’s EV juggernaut rewrote the timeline.

Brands like BYD, MG, GWM, and Zeekr are flooding international markets with affordable, well-specced EVs. In Australia, the MG4 and BYD Dolphin now undercut popular ICE hatchbacks like the Corolla and i30—not just on price, but on running costs, tech, and driving experience. Price parity is no longer a future scenario. It’s here.

In Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia, the price gap is closing rapidly. These are not niche rollouts—these are mainstream, mass-market plays. And with every container ship arriving packed with Chinese EVs, local sticker prices continue to fall.

This is what disruption looks like: a full-frontal price war spilling out from China into the rest of the world. It’s not just about cheap cars—it’s about volume, vertical integration, and a government-backed industrial strategy aimed at global dominance.

For consumers, this is a win. For legacy automakers, it’s an existential threat.

The old guard—GM, Toyota, VW—are finding themselves outpriced, outpaced, and out-innovated. They’re still talking about 2026, while China is already delivering the future—now.

The writing’s on the wall.
Legacy automakers? They’re on the chopping block.

Electric Trucks and the Future of Chinese Oil Demand Analysts have been discussing “peak oil” for decades. We’re hardly equipped to wade into that debate ourselves, even as Chinese demand will be a critical variable in future global oil demand. But…

@rhg.com: "We estimate China's total electric vehicle fleet is already displacing over 1 million barrels per day in implied oil demand. That level is likely to rise by around 600,000 barrels per day over the next year." rhg.com/research/ele... 🔌💡

Renewables are booming, but electrification lags in OECD.

⚡️ While countries like Germany & Chile boost solar/wind, electrification rates are slow, unlike China's rapid growth.

Bridging the gap is key for a successful energy transition.

conventional power plants didn't control the voltage as planned
over-voltage caused renewables to turn off as required
