Autism doesn't have "risk factors". That's like saying blue eyes have risk factors. Autism is a normal variation of being human.

Correlation is not causation. Of course an identical twin being autistic is highly correlated with being autistic, just like an identical twin being left-handed is highly correlated with being left-handed. It's genetic.

I have limited energy. I'm learning to spend it wisely.

I wonder how many autistic people have autism as a SPIN.

Not the same, but I had someone who married a close relative of mine decide this about me and I found out 15 years later that she was sure I hated her, had hated her from the moment I met her, and was waging secret war against her the entire time, & I had no idea.
She hasn't spoken to me since 2011.

The Daily Tism posting directly at me again. The audacity.

This is awful. I'm so sorry.
I had a "my sandwich" at a restaurant too and they got rid of it and for a very long time I continued to order it in person but they started dropping ingredients and finally I can't order anything that looks like it any more. Sucks so bad.

OMG
This is horrifying
I know most people would read this and say "what? this isn't even that bad. no one got hurt or restrained even. the situation ended peacefully. who cares?"

And. That lack of empathy kills me. That poor sweet little boy.

Do you have a cat who loves you?
I've had cats off & on my whole life. For the first time, I have a cat who loves me. She follows me frequently just to be near me. She sleeps with me every night, in arms reach. She climbs onto me and purrs. She pushes her face against mine. She meows & looks for me.

You have to stay put until that little angel wants to get up. Those are the rules.

"Most any man...who heard this kind of shit...[would leave or react violently]"
As a woman who has seen this behavior and observed other men interacting with men who think and act this way - this is not my experience whatsoever. I've rarely if ever seen a man called out for it by another man.

...when it's not actually present so after thinking about it longer, I think it's unlikely that autistic people, in general, would miss someone being not interested... I think we're much more likely to miss that someone IS interested!

I am autistic and I know I personally miss social cues and I wonder if other autistic people would potentially miss the cues that someone else is "not interested" but I think that's fairly unlikely because another feature of my autism is being HIGHLY sensitive to rejection and inventing it sometimes

The part where she was really upset about having a good interaction with her mom because now she'd be sad if her mom died and previously she wouldn't have been.
This is such an #autistic truism and horrifying for allistic people to hear. But. It's just how our brains work.

Strong Female Character A summary of my book: 1. I'm diagnosed with autism 20 …

Strong Female Character by Fern Brady is fantastic, and also painful, but in the way that hearing someone's pain can be intensely difficult. I related very strongly to a lot of it and didn't relate at all to some of it - but that's why #autism is a spectrum - we all have different pieces of it.

Fascinating how our senses work!

I was able to borrow it from my library. The link goes to Blackwells that will ship it to the US, the price includes the cost of shipping.

I like 64-66 plus a warm blanket (or more than one) and heated bags of rice on each side of me. Cool ish face, warm ish body. For sleep. =)
The house should be 72 basically all the time for my best comfort.

So, something fascinating about autistic people, is our sensory situation. We can be overly sensitive &overly numb to our senses, and sometimes both for the same sense, which is confusing. Sensory avoidant AND sensory seeking. Your grandson may be avoiding and seeking for sense of taste w/hot sauce!

I have one of those for whom variety and volume were both problems.
May I suggest looking into ARFID and seeing if that is what is going on here?
Knowing what is at work can be very helpful in getting the right support.
