I'm a big fan of Japan. Second only to Bowie, I'd say.

Sad to hear today that Simon House has left us. He played violin and mandolin on Lodger and was part of Bowie's band for the Isolar II tour, appearing in the Stage album. He was also well known as a member of Hawkwind and worked with many others.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Alan Yentob. As the creative force behind Cracked Actor, he helped capture one of the most extraordinary and fragile moments in David Bowie’s career with honesty and artistry. His documentary remains essential viewing—intimate, raw, and iconic. RIP.

Lodger turns 46 today. My gateway into Bowie: “Boys Keep Swinging”, “DJ”, “Yassassin”… The cover story’s wild—told in Five Sessions (and David Bowie: The Collector!). Audaciously, Bowie rejected a beautiful hi-res shot for a Polaroid. Visconti later told us he always wanted to remix it. And he did.

Diamond Dogs turned 51 yesterday. A true Bowie solo album—no Ronson, no Ken Scott, no Visconti (until late on). Bowie played and produced most of it himself. A masterpiece, rightly. How does it compare to Ziggy or Aladdin Sane? Our issue 11 cover by Helen Green honoured it.
