The amount of errors I see in just describing sampling strategy and response rates is a big bummer. Few seem to know what random means (of things I review. I am not randomly selected as a reviewer, after all.)

Oil and gas prices rapidly rise as Iran war shows no signs of letting up The price of oil surged higher and showed no signs of halting its rapid climb a week after the U.S. and Israel launched major attacks on Iran that escalated into a war in the Middle East.

Hello historian of #bicycling here; if anyone wants to hear about what happened in WWII and also during the 1970s energy crisis (when Americans turned to bicycles as alternative transportation solutions) I'm certainly available. I've written about both in _Bike Battles_.

When you get back to PHX check out the streetcar museum! There was a good system until the shed caught fire and the cars were destroyed in 1948.

Could requiring fewer apartment stairways help solve Minnesota’s housing shortage? Many Minnesota apartment buildings are required to have two stairways. Some legislators want to change that.

Single stair is being proposed in Minnesota. In a surprising turn of events, the Fire Departments are opposed.

With the price of gas on the way up, perhaps a lot and do a while, I expect efforts to reduce the gas tax to start any day.

This is sort of my concern, too. A lit review is used to explain your argument and identify the gaps your work contributes to filling. It's not just an annotated list of things. That's not interesting or even sets up the balance of the research.

Really anything is possible these days. We used to say that as a sign of optimism. Now we say it because we just don’t have any idea where any of this is going.

My own experience is it’s mixed to unusual to have that connection. My guess is airports are usually located in places long distance transit doesn’t make a lot of sense. Tokyo airports are not served by Shinkansen, Paris is served by HSR, as two modest examples.

This would also cause harm to federal spending on transit, but we’re already shifting toward more local taxes for transport investment and operations. Generally this would lead to better transport policies all around, though (mostly as cheaper options make for better cities).

I’m such a tiresome contrarian… I opposed the VMT fee transition for years, bc gas tax so elegantly put costs to So Many problems created by cars.

But contrary to what we hear, EV and AV transitions are happening. We gotta tax that, and curtail deadhead robotaxi miles. It’s time for VMT charging.

04.03.2026 17:03 β€” πŸ‘ 37    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 4    πŸ“Œ 1

The solution to worries about AVs increasing VMT is to have a VMT tax. It's a direct solution to the issue people are worried about.

I (still) want a history of how the oil crisis affected the trajectory of different nation’s transport priorities. The US carried forward with auto-oriented policies at all levels. Other countries did not.

How Buildings Learn - Wikipedia

I like these because, despite the purpose staying the same, the building is meant to grow and adapt. All buildings should be viewed as in motion across time and not fixed. Stewart Brand's How Buildings Learn is a good resource on this idea, though not the same as buildings that are never finished.
