Labour is losing the voters it used to count on, a new study reveals.
In the aftermath of the Green Party's triumph in the Gorton and Denton by-election, and with local elections in London councils and other major cities coming up, Labour is losing the left progressive voters it could once rely on having
"nowhere else to go".
Now, the biggest study ever of these voters - shared exclusively with the New Statesman - reveals the true risk to Labour's future of leaving them behind.
This work, done by surveying 10,000 voters and a randomised control trial style approach, has found out who the so-called progressive defectors are, why they're deserting Labour, and what impact this could have on Labour's electoral prospects.

Worrying news at the NS podcast, where the lads have discovered millions of younger, mostly educated left/lib people get all upset and offended if you relentlessly insult them, tell them to fuck off and implement policies that they find appalling.

Agreed. Just throwing out all sorts of nonsense now.

Same, although I’m stopping now because it’s just a bit silly.

I don’t know about the US, but certainly in the UK that would be a criminal offence, yes. People have been charged with GBH or manslaughter/murder for that sort of thing. But I’m not sure what that has to do with the point about bodily autonomy?

Children absolutely do have rights.

The state does not force circumcision and wearing a seatbelt is non-invasive.

06.03.2026 20:28 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Hard disagree. It’s kind of a basic principle of a free society that people have autonomy over their bodies and can’t have medical procedures or treatment forced upon them.

06.03.2026 20:21 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Indeed. This is definitely not an ‘ah well just leave them to it’ kind of situation.

Hi, I’m immunocompromised with an infant daughter about to start nursery. Unvaccinated kids getting sick puts both my daughter and me at significant risk. Vaccination isn’t just for personal protection; it’s to protect everybody else too.

It really should have happened with us. My one big criticism of Farke the first season was letting Spence go while flogging Archie at right back.

The Ampadu - Archie combination in midfield looked immense the few times we saw it early in the season. Or even Archie as more of a 10.

This period is absolutely key to his development though, and so far he’s spending his formative years playing way too much and out of position. Needs to be learning his trade in his natural position and in a team where the pressure isn’t being heaped all on him.

So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and they’re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was “your piano is too close to the fireplace, you’ll dry it out” and if that’s not the internet in a nutshell I don’t know what is.

To be honest even that is needlessly complicating what is a really simple issue. Refs should just let the game play on if they think a player is bullshitting an injury. It’s usually pretty obvious if there’s a genuine injury that requires urgent attention.

05.03.2026 14:56 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

*then it’s not that clear and obvious

05.03.2026 14:54 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Yeah, I just mean to avoid those stupid situations where somebody has obviously been injured as a result of a foul and then is ALSO forced to go off after treatment.

05.03.2026 13:43 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Have to stop this nonsense because it’s genuinely ruining the game. VAR needs to have strict time limits too. If something takes more than 20 seconds to decide on that it’s not that clear or obvious and we just go with whatever the onfield decision was. Done. There you go - I just fixed football. 😂

This should be rolled out right now. Absolutely no reason not to. Refs also need to be much stronger on dealing with outfield players blatantly faking injuries to break the game up BUT should have it in their discretion to not enforce the 30 second rule if they think an injury was genuine. #lufc

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

Problem is PGMOL have tied themselves in knots trying to be too prescriptive at the low level and to justify the crap VAR processes. And they basically never do anything about players playacting injury and/or trying to game the ref. Makes the ref’s job impossible.

04.03.2026 15:33 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yup. I think there should be zero tolerance policy on backchatting and playing the ref, like in rugby. But in rugby you can generally expect the refs to make reasonable decisions. And there would still need to be a proper outlet for discussion about how games are being reffed.

Unless it’s his entirely understandable reaction to the red card that they’re now using to charge him with. Whole thing is a total joke but they’re now in full arse-covering protect-the-ref mode.

04.03.2026 14:58 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

04.03.2026 14:21 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Ah, I assume from now on every time a manager tries to talk to the ref after the game it’s an automatic red card then? #lufc

This perfectly illustrates my point that the British tabloids are aiming at a US audience. There like 5 people in the UK who think about this. But it is huge among US evangelicals.

British politicians need to ignore UK tabloids, as UK tabloids are talking to an audience in the US for clicks.

Yeah, I’m really not sure it was handball. I think he moves his arm AFTER the ball hits it, which makes it look more deliberate than it was. If anything, he’s panicking and trying to get his arm out of the way.
