Iβm going to share the full Pale Tides map in this monthβs backer update!
I designed the layout and the incredible @francescabaerald.com brought it to life - she added so much flair and did such an incredible job interpreting my loose ideas. Truly an inspiring collaboration π€

βPeople cannot tell the difference between a real agent & a criminal & that makes everyone less safe β especially immigrant women who are the most vulnerable," @velazquez.house.gov told me.
I tried that once... So anyways, I need to go buy some more catheter supplies.

11.08.2025 20:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I find it frustrating that Mary Shelley created Sci-Fi, and essentially Body-Horror (at least in its modern form) and is seldom mentioned for either.
She did GREAT work. More people need to give her credit.
What about when I say "Jesus f**king Christ, Jason, why did you do THAT?"
'Cuz if you're hearing that, too, please fix my brain so I stop screwing up. Then you'll get your peace of mind. Until then... π
My Pixel 6 keeps telling me I have a new message from my doctor's office... I responded to it 2 hours ago, 20 minutes after getting it. This is the third time. Since it's about some VERY IMPORTANT matters, I get a minor panic attack each time.
Google, you jerks need to test your stuff better.
Oh, and UNLIKE Plex, its Android TV home screen integration widget actually works. (The thing that shows the album and song name. It always has since I tried it the first time.) So that's a tiny nicety I'll enjoy if I switch. We'll see though.
I'll report back on Jellyfin once I know more.

But if things keep looking good, I might actually switch away from Plex, despite its MANY warts. (Scrolling is just f**king weird. Its automatic genre detection pulls in lots of obvious typos someone uploaded somewhere...etc. and no random album feature -- I'll miss that one a lot.)

During general server maintenance of my media server I noticed that Jellyfin had an update. I got around to trying it here and two of the dealbreakers I encountered previously have been fixed: Some of the m3u issues, and the plugin catalog.
I'm letting it scan my entire catalog overnight.

Correlation is not cognition.[1] Stop with the nonsense.
Everyday we slip further into the abyss. I often regret reading emails from other academics.

Thanks. We play the cards we're delt. I just wish, in college, I'd known what I know now. I'd have stayed in grad school and looked to finish my studies in Europe.
Oh well. At least I can share that advice with younger folks in a similar spot as I was then.
It really is. I'd have left for the EU in the dim orange one's first term, except none of the countries I'd likely fit in with accept people my age with all my medical issues. Not even Canada will take me. Hell, who am I kidding, if I wasn't born here, not even the USA would take me. "Too expensive"
09.08.2025 14:01 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've a preprint with Annelies K. and Lelia E. that is relevant to feminised people and our relationship to AI; dehumanisation here follows previously underdiscussed patterns from AI's inception:

I see more congealed, previously melted, American cheese. That looks disgusting. While I'm not a big fan of tuna melts, but I'll eat one if it's all that's available. I'd never eat THAT thing.

Any thoughts on why that is? π
Yes, Wood I do, for both your statement and your question. I am in need of three mythic items.
1. The roots of a mountain.
2. The breath of a fish.
3. The sound of a cat's footfall, in a glass, kintsugi, globe unopened for 1 billion years. (I hear a little shop near me has one.)
I once tried selling a literal one of those as a "nascent intelligence." The health department fined me.
I suppose if I'd used fresh meat it might have taken more than an hour to get that fine. π
I have a friend and former coworker who is doing some APPROPRIATE neural net work at Mayo Clinic. He keeps engaging in the fallacies you're pointing out. Thankfully he listens in earnest when I try to talk him down.
I'm hoping one day it clicks with him how these systems are so very different.
Nah. My moodlet is always a giant question mark that looks overworked and stressed beyond belief. It's also sensitive about being stared at.
