Today was a freaking huge #PhD win.

Seven months ago I went to an archive. Today I finished a massive project off the back of it. I can't really talk about it now..but at some point I'll be able to put out into the world what I've done & I can't wait

But now...I'm starting the writing up. #PhDSky

Good luck for the presentation! I started a log on Monday where I'm writing every little thing I manage to achieve each day to try to help that sense of achievement - so easy to overlook what you've managed to do, but little by little we'll get there!

Still new to the academic blog life...I have one planned to publish on Saturday on a Remembrance / World War One topic. When do people think is actually the best time to publish to get as much engagement as possible - should I go earlier? How do people decide when's best? #PhdSky #PhDChat #academic

I’m hoping this blog goes some way towards rectifying that. Sometimes it’s just as fun to hear about where research goes wrong, as where it goes right.

It’s also the story of something I don’t think gets talked about much in academia. It’s about the excitement of making an historical discovery, and the crush when you realise you’re entirely wrong. Sometimes research goes like that, but I think we tend to only advertise our wins.

You’re so right! I struggle because I always feel like I’ve not done enough, so can’t quite “justify” taking a break.

But rest is so important to allow you to actually be productive when working that’s it’s a crucial part of the process. I’m just rubbish at it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's the start of #PhD year two, and I'm pretty tired. I don't know if everyone is like this but as a part-time person I don't feel like I ever get holidays from the PhD...do other people observe the academic timetable?

That’s a tough ask because they typically need a period of cold. Kind of depends where you are but you could try looking at the Wambugu Apple, which was developed in Kenya.

I have two. One of the trees is kind of sad but had three gorgeous look big red apples this year. I came out last weekend to find every one stolen (one discarded in the middle of the lawn half eaten) 😩

Waited a whole year since the last crumble, and after squirrels took some snacks I ended up with 6 apples and 1 delicious crumble. 🌱🍎🍏 #growyourown

As a PhD student at Greenwich it wasn’t great comms to get the email informing us well after finishing the BBC article.

Suspect this will create an interesting environment in terms of stability with supervisors over the next few years particularly given the redundancies that just happened…
