You know how much I love my evil, quasi-sentient trees in fiction, but a state sponsored serial killer is a better villain in the end. TB does an amazing job of grounding magic in the real world in a completely believable way.

Seishirou’s family being assassins who use magic to carry out jobs and this just being a thing they do is somehow so much more frightening than the idea that they’re involved in human sacrifice to an entity.

The best of all possible universes is out there somewhere!
