i just was completely taken off guard by the "kalin is under arrest" thing lol
nah gfl1 was different; it was node based but each battle was a singular instance in which you could micromanage individual units, so it played very differently despite sort of conceptually similar

i wasn't sure if i just grabbed the wrong one or if one of the events i skipped was actually important lol
and if you're getting new characters but are never actually playing with them, then the only worthwhile thing left is the story, which... yeah, then the story problems start to be pretty significant
