This week’s FIAL-related art is “Andromache Mourning Hector” by Jacques-Louis David, which depicts a moment from Homer’s Iliad where Hector’s wife grieves and invokes others to mourn, even though his death was the result of him murdering Patroclus. Because of his transgressions, she mourns alone. 🥲

Draco has a long history of getting what he wants. Because of his wealth, his immense privilege, the Malfoy proximity to royalty, sure.

“I can think of several things that are worse,” he offered with a mix of optimistic antagonism.

Hermione dropped her head back, resting it between his shoulder blades with a groan of resignation. “Shut up, Malfoy.”

With a heavy sigh, Hermione bid farewell to her plans, knowing that, at least for the foreseeable future, she’d be stuck with Draco until a solution presented itself. “This is the worst.”

Draco hummed softly in thought and then gave a small shrug.

“Can you reach your wand?” Draco asked as he fought against the restraints.

“Does it seem like I can reach my wand?” she bit back, equally as bound.

The two of them wriggled and strained in an attempt to loosen the ropes, but stopped at the risk of toppling over.

Two thick coils of rope were serpentining their way through the cracked opening of the glowing door and gaining on them at a concerning speed.

Before she could defend herself & Draco against it, the ropes wrapped around them, forcing their backs flushed to one another in growing tightness.

“Granger, wand. Now.” His voice adopted a sense of urgency as he reached a hand toward her.

The sudden shift in demeanor delayed Hermione’s reaction time slightly. She spun to face him while reaching for her wand secured in her hair, but was quickly confronted with the source of the noise.

“Well stop leaving it“ Draco’s words stopped abruptly at the sound of hissing from behind them.

“I’m certain that mysterious lights in the bowels of the Ministry are far more exciting than whatever Chablis and crudité you and Red were going to indulge in this evening,”

“I /told you/ it was just a door,” Draco said, though she didn’t miss the sigh of relief that had preceded his statement.

Hermione checked her watch & let out a groan. Investigating the door after hours at Draco’s insistence had made her significantly late for her happy hour plans with Ginny.

After several seconds, she peeked an eye open to see what greeted them, foe or otherwise, but was instead
greeted with nothing at all.

“Huh,” was all she managed,
brows furrowed with the lack of pomp shielded behind the door.

With a steadying and only slightly hesitant breath, she turned the knob on the door, allowing the blue light to spill out into the darkened hallway of the Ministry’s underground corridor.

He smirked to himself, taking the compliment sans sarcasm, much to her dismay.

of it, it would take pity on you, giving me plenty of time to flee… you know, for safety purposes. Getting help and all of that.”

“It’s just a bloody door, Granger. Open the damn thing already.”

“If it’s /just a door/ then why don’t you open it?” Hermione crossed her arms, waiting expectantly for the answer that seemed to evade him.

“Well, doors shouldn’t glow like that for starters,” Draco said after a moment.
