White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.

“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

Truly the most important question!

I’ve been submitting 311 requests for speed cushions on my street for over a year! Some of the requests have disappeared and some have gone unanswered. Three surrounding streets have gotten speed calming installed—happy there is any calming and I don’t understand the logic!

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.

Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

So now we are all legally female

In the coming days/months/years, don’t “yuck on people’s yum” here if you can avoid it. I know it feels trite seeing folks post their cute cats or jokes with friends in the midst of horrors unfolding.
