Don’t think so. This is a petition that would cause the government to hold a referendum using this question. That will be the real challenge.

We will disagree. At this point the question is “should Albertans be asked this question in a referendum?”

They should use this opportunity to organize their forces for the actual referendum. And at the actual referendum the NDP will also flip the script and become strong proponents of the YES side. Leave the UCP is the awkward spot ... still trying to be neither YES nor NO.

If I were with the separatist group, I would now flip the script. Withdraw my question and fully organize to gather signatures to support this specific question. Organize with the view that "This result will be very powerful if it has a resounding NO at the referendum."

Didn't read the article .... but if we want this petition to be attractive to all people regardless of their political affiliation, I can understand why a party may not officially be involved in something. An NDP stamp on it will push some people out right away.
