I have aphantasia... I can't visualize, but I understand color theory, so I can add the concepts of red and yellow and get orange, even though I'm not seeing it...

I'm also way better at 3D art, which is why I do pottery. For me the "feel" and kinesthetic aspect are there, but I also usually "know" what things will look like, even though I don't see them? Like when I finish a piece, I think, yup, that's exactly how I imagined it. Or sometimes, nope, not it.

Correct. Although it's a spectrum, so even though I'm 5 on the Apple list... I kind of watch a movie behind a black curtain and know what's going on... It's hard to explain, lol

That's so interesting. I only found out about aphantasia recently, and now I'm obsessed with understanding how people think. Weirdly, I think even though I only SEE black, my thoughts are similar to people who visualize. It feels like I'm seeing, but a black curtain is in the way.

1st I love that! 2nd, when you say you can't visualize, but are you not conceptualizing it either? I have aphantasia and do pottery. I conceptualize it in my head, know how I want it to look, just without visuals. Like this torso, I knew I wanted a male torso made from coils... Is that the same?

Most of those conditions you are born with, so childhood trauma would play no role. Aphantasia and SDAM can be caused by trauma, but most of the time they are congenital.

Oh, totally. It sucks. The only upside that I can see so far is that the people he has been announcing are going to make it impossible to ignore how horrible he actually is. At least, I hope so. They have proven remarkably resilient to facts to this point.
