The Surgeon General is the nation’s chief medical communicator.
Casey Means can’t fulfill that role because she isn’t a board certified, licensed physician.
How can you speak on behalf of other doctors when you’ve tried so hard not to be one?

Health information that is evidence backed and clear may help people seek care sooner and I hope help them wade through the ocean of falsehoods that now exist today
I agree 100% with your concerns on ensuring personal data is not shared. And I share your concerns about any efforts to restrict access to medical care through prior authorization processes that are not intended to give real access.
My hope is the AI tools help ensure access to clearer health info
Second half of segment was too long to post but the key points are here, which summarize the best ways to leverage AI tools for health information and questions:
The proliferation of AI tools for healthcare - I believe - will ultimately be a very good thing for care access nationwide.
But context matters and these tools have limitations. Certainly the human touch still (and will always) matter.

Today @vinguptamd.bsky.social and I held Vital Lessons session at #SXSWEDU. Vaccines are being weaponized to the detriment of public health & families are turning to schools for answers. We talked about having the courage to tell the truth & how educators help students navigate the world around them
Since March ‘25, I’ve worked closely with my dear friend @rweingarten.bsky.social and @aft.org to provide free, digital public health town halls nationally on the topics that matters to you and your family.
You can find updates here: sharemylesson.com/vital-lessons
We have your back. @sxswedu.com
“‘There’s no greater or more humbling privilege than to be entrusted to speak to the next generation of healthcare leaders on one of the most special days of their lives,’ said Dr. Gupta.”
Commencements are always a special moment.
They are a reminder that in spite of today’s challenges, the future will be shaped by those stepping up to meet them head on.
I’m grateful to the Kaiser School of Medicine for this very special privilege.

California is stepping up as the Trump admin undermines public health and puts lives at risk
@governor.ca.gov is defending science: launching the West Coast Health Alliance and partnering with global health leaders like the @who.int as vaccine guidance is rolled back and research funding is slashed

America’s top doctor shouldn’t be someone who peddles junk science to get rich off a grift.
Casey Means can’t even practice medicine.
I will vote NO on her confirmation.
It’s my 43rd trip around the sun today.
The last year was a year of deep personal loss, and I feel like it tangibly today.
But motivated by the work ahead.
And as Jonathan mentions below, I’m deeply grateful for the trust you place in me.
I support more nutrition education in medical school
But if the real intent is better eating, why the devastating cuts to SNAP?
How about guaranteed coverage for nutrition counseling with a dietitian instead of taking away health insurance for many?
Substance in health policy matters.
😂
To those who didn’t bend a knee and stood up from Day 1 to the lies and nonsense from RobertKennedyJr and the charlatans that surround him, the general public agrees with you in a big way.
The *vast* majority has had enough of the insanity and chaos
A new day is coming
“Each time someone stands up for an ideal, they send forth a tiny ripple of hope.”
Love this narration by @joe-scarborough.bsky.social on why our mission at @ms.now is so vital, especially now.
Very proud to be this network’s medical analyst.
Innovations in medical devices are allowing us to better care for our patients and save lives
The leaps are remarkable and bring renewed hope
I’m grateful for the warm invite from Medtronic to speak to your hardworking Latin American teams in beautiful São Paulo.
Special work in a special place!
Hope everyone will read this brilliant piece from @katherineeban.bsky.social on Casey Means.
Surgeon generals usually represent the very best of the medical community. Means isn’t even a part of it, by her own choosing.

No ICE in schools. No ICE in hospitals.
Under Governor Newsom’s leadership, California is implementing the nation’s strongest laws to protect our residents from tactics being employed by President Trump and Stephen Miller’s secret police.
ICE is directly interfering with medical care in hospitals and clinics nationwide
Nearly 40 have died, with critical meds and care being withheld
That’s not justice, it’s inhumanity
Thankfully @gavinnewsom.bsky.social is taking the lead in safeguarding patient care.
The White House medical team didn’t know POTUS got a CT scan. They claimed it was a MRI for weeks.
Now instead of acknowledging he might have a pre-cancerous skin condition, they dance around the issue.
Trying to fool the public just makes it worse.
California is seeing real progress in addressing homelessness:
“We’re grateful for the investments the state has made under Gov. Newsom’s bold and visionary leadership… we saw homelessness decrease in Alameda County for the first time in more 10 years — 11% reduction in unsheltered homelessness”

NEW! From the same clueless Republicans who brought you doubling premiums: $31,000 deductibles.
Only an out of touch billionaire would think that counts as affordable.
Reading this and thinking of the kinder, more humane world we’d be living in had President Hillary Clinton shepherded our nation during the early days of COVID and ever since.
Imagine how much better we’d feel about the future of this planet

Millions of moms struggle with depression during their pregnancy.
America deserves a Surgeon General who can state plainly that SSRIs are SAFE for the majority of pregnant women.
We don't need more junk science charlatans. I'm voting NO on Casey Means' confirmation.
