Asylum seekers, housed in hotels in Manchester, are reaching out in their own words to address the concerns of the local community.

Please take a minute to read their letter, & share it with the people in your life who need to hear the truth about the people they are protesting.

Probably because when we all sit and think about it, we have friends, family and colleagues who’d be affected. We are an increasingly blended country, and every passing year sees it more so.

Perhaps she should set an example, and voluntarily ‘go home’ to her grand-parents’ countries of origin, The Netherlands or Germany. This selfless gesture would inspire millions to follow her, proving that this ‘rising star’ is true to her principles and not just mouthing fashionable fascism.

My favourite bit in The Last English King - I think - is the troubadour in Turkey singing a song that goes ‘The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind…’ well, it made me laugh!

And here’s the thing: it is really great story, and needs no embellishment! The highlights as depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry, and the details in the AS Chronicles etc, are a gift to a scriptwriter and their historical consultant.

Why do they always come ashore on a beach, not on a quay? Why is Dover in the Lake District? Why is London a wooden village, in a hilly area? Why is Edward the Confessor an imbecile? And why have they taken a great story and decided it needed ‘improving’? The Bayeux Tapestry is much better!

I bet it came over on a boat, illegally, for a better life here, as part of the great native rat replacement theory

Seems France is in a similar situation… the voters and their political parties’ leaders oppose anything suggested by government to deal with national debt, and €60+ billions spent on interest payments. Talk of abolishing two bank holidays (out of 13 - we have 8) is opposed by left and right.

Having had a first pass at the Industrial Strategy, my thought is that I am not sure how a strategy that is entirely reliant on a sustained large supply of graduates is wholly compatible with a relaxed attitude towards the financial distress of the institutions charged with producing that workforce.

Personally, I think a land tax is better. You can hide wealth - which is often an opinion - but land is ‘real’.

I used to say a bad Labour govt is always better than any Tory govt, but I’m starting to doubt my own aphorism. Quite a lot of Labour MPs and councillors from ‘immigrant’ backgrounds. Wonder how they are feeling.

Three of our players went for a pizza at the tea interval and were late back for the 2nd innings, so we had to start with 8 fielders. We lost. The disciplinary will include instructions on how to a) make a sandwich, b) how to order on Uber Eats etc, c) tell the time.

Or we could read the whole report, rather than the newspaper summary of the Foreword. There might well be some stimulating thoughts and observations in there. Some of us are blinded by our own prejudices.

You only ever need 3 pairs of underwear: 1 on, 1 in the wash, 1 drying. And 1 pair if you are really scummy: front, back to front, inside out, inside out back to front. Wash and repeat.

I would have preferred a discussion about the local elections. What, for instance, would be the Conservatives approach to the Birmingham bin strike?
