Unlike, say, data analytics giant Palantir, Ring is a surveillance network that homeowners have by and large deployed themselves, powered by fear mongering against our neighbors and unfettered consumerism.

In recent months, Google, Reddit, Discord and Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, have received hundreds of administrative subpoenas from DHS. This explosion is because they want to punish people for resisting their violent, discriminatory deportation campaign.
CIS Affiliate @granick.bsky.social reviews Orin Kerr's "The Digital Fourth Amendment," agreeing with his "equilibrium-adjustment" theory but criticizing his cautious approach to tech surveillance & his 1920s baseline that ignores racism in policing harvardlawreview.org/print/vol-13...

I'm delighted that the Harvard Law Review has published a book review of "The Digital Fourth Amendment." The review, by @granick.bsky.social, is here.

Outlook From To Date Thu 10/30/2025 10:34 AM dernbach @gmail.com> Mr. Dernbach, don't play Russian roulette with H's life. Err on the side of caution. There's a reason the US government along with many other governments don't recognise the Taliban. Apply principles of common sense and decency.
The email that launched a 99-day DHS investigation.
The investigation is over — but not the concerns it raises.

DHS is waging a bi-coastal assault on the free speech rights of people speaking truth about power. Last fall, in a separate case, the agency unsuccessfully sought the identity of our client who discusses ICE activity on Instagram. www.aclunorcal.org/press-releas...

ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...

Homeland Security is targeting Americans who criticize it with unfounded investigations fueled by judicially-unsupervised administrative subpoenas.
This article tells the story of our client who was so targeted.

If a foreign country bombed us (killing noone-is-reporting-how-many Americans) and loaded Trump onto an airplane for a foreign prison, would we call it "regime change" or an invasion? Would we say Trump was "captured", or abducted?
News needs to use the right words, not euphemisms.
As a New College alum, I also noticed the article does not mention DeSantis' vow to remake my alma mater into a "Hillsdale of the South"-- a private Christian school that doesn't take federal funding so that it doesn't have to comply with civil rights laws. I very much appreciate your analysis.

I gave money to San Francisco Aid for Animals, a nonprofit that helps pay for medical care for animals whose families cannot afford the treatment. There are few greater joys in life than the love between a pet and an owner, and money shouldn't be allowed to come between them.

My father grew up very poor. They didn't always know where the next meal was coming from. When he would see a woman begging on the street, he would swing the car around to give her money, and say, "she reminds me of my mother". So I gave in memory of his mother, my grandmother, Leah Wiseman.
19.12.2025 22:06 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I gave money to the SF-Marin food bank. Food insecurity is real, especially when kids aren't in school, where estimates are that almost 20% of all kids rely on free lunch for their nutrition. With cuts to SNAP programs, families don't know if they are going to have enough to eat. It's immoral.

My first book, Takeover, was about Dick Cheney's quest to expand presidential power (or "restore" it, as he saw it, to the level it had reached when Nixon was president, before Watergate). First two chapters, including Cheney's rise, free here: charliesavage.com/books/takeov...
