In Vancouver, city hall denotes when a councillor votes “abstains” on a motion, even though that legally means they voted yes.

It’s a weird and confusing rule that doesn’t really happen anywhere else in the province, so here’s my snarky story about why it was back in the news this week.

Today, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band) and the City of Vancouver proudly unveiled the street signs for šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street. Each street corner will display two street signs: šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street and its English translation, Musqueamview. #reconciliation #vanpoli

SRO fire sends two to hospital in Vancouver’s Downtown Two people were sent to hospital to treat smoke inhalation after a fire broke out inside a social housing unit on the Granville Strip in Vancouver.

Recent assessments of the Expo Deck show that portions of it are no longer safe for public access. The new path is a mix of asphalt and compacted gravel, as equipment required to lay asphalt on the deck portion exceeded the safe weight limits for the structure. #vanpoli 3/3

The new path is designed for long-term use and will remain in place, while the City continues long-term planning for safe deconstruction of the Expo Deck, built in 1984 for a “temporary” period of time. #vanpoli 2/3
