Arabist en jurist Laila al-Zwaini (59) overleden De arabist en jurist Laila alZwaini is overleden. Ze was al geruime tijd ziek en overleed zaterdag op 59jarige leeftijd. Laila alZwaini trad als deskundige geregeld op in de media.ppAlZwaini werd op 6 juli 1965 in Eindhoven geboren als dochter van een Nederlandse moeder en een Iraakse vader. Ze was gespecialiseerd in onder meer de sharia islamitische rechtsleer, Arabische stammen en vrouwenrechten in de islamitische en Arabische wereld.ppZe was onder meer verbonden als onderzoeker aan de Universiteit van Leiden, waar ze rechten en islamitische studies studeerde.ph2Vriend van de showh2pAlZwaini woonde en werkte enige tijd in Egypte, Irak en Jemen waar ze wetenschappelijk onderzoek deed. Ook trad ze op als hoofd van een rechtsstaatmissie van de Verenigde Naties in Afghanistan. ppOok bij de NOS was alZwaini vaak te zien en te horen als duider. In het radioprogramma Nieuws en Co NOSNTR was ze onder meer vriend van de show.ppIn het radioprogramma Met het Oog op Morgen vertelde ze meeslepend, onder meer over revolutionaire bewegingen in Syri of Irak. Ze had oog voor het menselijk verhaal maar ook voor andere perspectieven. Dat maakte haar heel bijzonder en ook heel geliefd.p
