The Dry Tree menhir stands upon goonhilly downs with three round barrows for company.

Today, it is dwarfed by the satellite station. Its unusual name derives from another landmark which has since disappeared, which I explore in my blog.

My plein air watercolour from 30 years ago showing the ice cream kiosk on Jesus Green, Cambridge

This view across the River Cam by the lock gates hasn't changed much since I painted this watercolour on the spot 30 years ago. I later produced a small oil using this as a sketch and I posted that on here recently.

There's at least two castles in my timeline

A weathered, small wooden barn with a gabled roof and a large attached lean-to shed stands in a field of dry grass. The structure's horizontal wood siding is gray and deteriorating, with several boards missing or broken, and a tangle of leafless vines grows over the front facade. The main doorway is open and partially blocked by a broken wooden door, while the open-sided shed to the left is filled with a disorganized pile of scrap wood and metal frames against a backdrop of bare winter trees and a clear blue sky.

Abbey gateway, Exhibition Square, York. The postern tower and gateway of St Mary's Abbey was built in 1497, the tower of brick faced with ashlar. Originally two storeys high it was made into three storeys in the 17th century by the insertion of a floor in the uplpper part and the addition of a hipped roof. It stands 26 ft 9ins (8.15m) high, excluding the roof. The postern is popularly known as Queen Margaret's Arch as it was thought to have been built in 1503 for the use of Margaret Tudor. A short length of original precinct wall of 1266 , with remains of a buttress and some heightening, survives to the south east. The gateway originally gave more direct access to the residence of the abbot of St Mary's Abbey which survives as the King's Manor and is visible in the left background. The City Council planned to demolish the gateway and rebuild it at ninety degrees to its original position, facing the art gallery, in order to make better access to Exhibition Square and Bootham for electric trams in 1910-12. The Bird-in-Hand public house,which incorporated the wall to the left of the archway.

They're brilliant! A place I used to work had an outdoor balcony staff area. 3 to 4 crows would go through the trash when no one was around & line up what they wanted on the table. 2 were lookouts. When a person came, the lookouts notified the others, each would grab an item off the table & fly off.

I've experienced other crows who've flown along with me for 200-300m whilst walking disinterested dogs before leaving the heathland.

Also in north Hampshire (near #FleetPond), 2 Red Kites approached the tall trees while 7 or 8 crows made a lot of noise in and around the trees to alert other birds to their arrival. One crow buzzed me as I was walking someone else's small dog until I looked up. I put the prey-size dog on a lead ->
