East of Lake Ontario, lake effect snow across Oswego County in the evening will move rapidly north across Jefferson County and weaken overnight. Off Lake Erie, lake effect snow will develop overnight across the Niagara Frontier and Buffalo Metro area, especially late tonight.

Lake effect snow will continue off Lake Ontario today, mainly across Oswego County where locally heavy additional snowfall will occur today through this evening. Elsewhere, expect a few scattered flurries with minimal accumulation through the daylight hours.

Additional snowfall expected this afternoon and evening. The heaviest snows will be across the higher elevations of the western Southern Tier and Wayne and northern Cayuga Counties. Snow begins to weaken overnight.

**Morning Commute Trends** A band of lake effect snow from Lake Huron will cross the Buffalo Metro early this morning and bring minor accumulations and slick spots. Lake snows will also continue across the western Southern Tier off Lake Erie, and southeast of Lake Ontario.

Highest amounts off Lake Erie will be mainly across higher terrain of the western Southern Tier and far southern Erie County. Highest amounts off Lake Ontario will be mainly southeast of the lake across eastern Wayne and northern Cayuga counties.

2:40 PM Dec 10th - Areas of rain and snow continue across WNY with widespread snowfall for north-central NY. Headed into tonight, precipitation will change back to all snow before transitioning to localized lake effect snowfall southeast of the lakes through Thursday night. #NYwx

Widespread snow is falling across the region this morning. With temperatures near freezing the bulk of the snow covered roads will be secondary and untreated roads. If traveling this morning allow extra time to clear your vehicle of snow and to travel safely through the snow. pic.

Wet snow transitions to a mix of rain and snow or even plain rain for some areas through the day, except for the higher terrain which may remain as all snow through the day, especially across the Eastern Lake Ontario region and the western Southern Tier.

Lake effect snow briefly develops over Niagara county and Buffalo Northtowns east of Lake Erie, and the Thousand Islands region east of Lake Ontario, tonight and ends by daybreak. Widespread light snow moves into western NY early Wednesday morning.

General light snow this afternoon with snow accumulations an inch or two. Lake effect snow late this afternoon and evening northeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario. 2-3” along and north of a line from Buffalo to Batavia and also through the Saint Lawrence Valley.

Accumulating snow from late this afternoon through Wednesday night across the higher terrain of southwest NYS, the Tug Hill Plateau, and western Adirondacks. Snow to mix with and change to plain rain for lower elevations Wednesday, limiting accumulations. Gusty winds Wednesday.

A series of storm systems followed by lake and upslope effects will lead to a prolonged period of snow for parts of the region. The snow on Wednesday will mix with rain in some places. Check the forecast for your area at weather.gov/buf

Today will feature some of the coldest temperatures thus far for the season for many areas. Temperatures for most areas will be at least 10 degrees and even close to 20 degrees below normal.

Snow will taper off across western and north-central NY tonight. Cold weather expected overnight into Monday.

Moderate to heavy snow will continue across portions of north-central NY this evening. Additional snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected across parts of Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego counties through 10PM.

[1:35 PM Radar] Light snow continues to overspread north-central NY this afternoon. Some enhancement from Lake Ontario is causing increased snowfall intensity around Watertown. Be extra cautious if traveling around the area this afternoon.

[9:29AM Radar] Light synoptic snow continues to spread into the region this morning. Some enhancement from Lake Erie is causing locally moderate snowfall to move into Buffalo. Give yourself plenty of extra time and take it slow if planning on traveling in the area.

Widespread light snow will move into the area starting this morning, continuing through the afternoon. Snow will taper off from west to east this evening. Snowfall amounts of 1 to 3" is expected for most areas, with some locations receiving up to 4" over the higher terrain.

Following some light lake effect precipitation lingering through tonight, attention turns to the next widespread snowfall coming on Sunday. Overall totals are expected to be minor with this round of snow with 1-3" forecast for most areas.

Light lake enhanced snow will develop today northeast of the lakes, and then shift to the east and southeast of the lakes through the evening. Snowfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with some areas of up to 3 inches possible. A cold front will cross the region tonight. pic.

High pressure will bring fair weather to our region today along with a good deal of sunshine. A little snow Saturday downwind of the eastern Great Lakes, then a quick moving storm system brings widespread, but light snow later Sunday and Sunday night. #nywx

Lake effect flurries and light snow showers will gradually end tonight, with any additional accumulation spotty and less than an inch. The coldest air of the season will drop wind chills into the single digits and even below zero in some areas overnight through Friday morning.
