The first day of meteorological spring won't feel like it, with temperatures more typical of mid-winter and leftover lake effect snow showers ending SE of Lake Ontario. The cold will begin to relax Monday, with a significant warming trend then following for the rest of the week.

A cold front will cross the region early this morning with a line of rain showers moving from west to east. A period of light snow is likely overnight tonight through Sunday morning with minor snow accumulations of a dusting to an inch or two. Much colder Sunday-Monday.

Winds will increase tonight, with peak gusts of around 40 mph across far Western NY and north of the Tug Hill Plateau, and up to 30 mph elsewhere. The strongest winds will develop after midnight and last through daybreak Saturday. #nywx

Clearing skies have given us the opportunity to see the lake ice on Lake Erie & Ontario. This type of satellite image allows for greater contrast of ice/snow in green vs dark blue which is water/land. The cyan blue, light orange, pink & red are clouds at different heights.

Leftover lake effect snow showers southeast of Lake Ontario will end today, with dry and cold weather otherwise. It will turn milder and remain dry for Friday, with a cold frontal passage early Saturday then ushering colder weather back into the area for the weekend.

Gusty southwest winds are expected across the region today, with gusts reaching 30-40 mph. The highest gusts are anticipated northeast of Lake Erie. Winds are expected to diminish this evening.

Widespread light to moderate snow will come to an end across most of the region this morning. Upslope and lake effect snow will persist across the southern Tug Hill region through tonight. Scattered to briefly more numerous snow showers are expected to develop this afternoon.

The majority of the accumulating snowfall will come tonight across western New York, and from the second half of tonight through Wednesday east of Lake Ontario. The greatest amounts will be across the higher terrain east of both lakes.

Periods of light snow will continue across western New York through tonight. Heavier snow is expected for areas south of Buffalo, where lake enhancement and upsloping will increase snowfall amounts.

A Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of Western New York. Steady snow will continue for WNY, with some heavier snow starting this evening for areas south of Buffalo, Batavia and Rochester.

It will be snowy across western and north-central NY to start the week. Widespread wet snow will move across the region today with minor accumulations. Lake enhancement will begin tonight and heavy snow is possible across Chautauqua County through Monday night.

While it will be mainly dry for much of the area through the early overnight hours, areas of freezing drizzle will be possible closer to Lake Ontario, and may produce slick spots on area roads and walkways. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for these areas thru 4 AM Sunday.

Expect mainly dry and uneventful weather through the early overnight hours, before light snow redevelops later tonight and Sunday morning. Accumulations through Sunday will be light however, with under an inch in most areas, and 1-2" across the higher terrain east of Lake Erie.

Behind a cold front, a return to typical late February temperatures today with snow showers and flurries through the day. Accumulations will be minor, but any untreated road surfaces may contain slippery spots where snow accumulates.

Wind gusts up to 50 MPH will be likely through most of the evening northeast of Lake Erie.

A wintry mix will occur across the eastern Lake Ontario region today and tonight. Greatest snowfall will be through the Saint Lawrence Valley, and also upon the Tug Hill. A few tenths of an inch of ice is also likely, especially for the southern Tug Hill region.

A nor'easter will advance up the Atlantic coastline this weekend, spreading light snow across WNY, and perhaps east of Lake Ontario. Greater snow totals are expected just to our south and east and if this storm tracks a little closer us, greater chances for 4 inches will occur.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect eastern Lake Ontario Friday and Friday night. A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is likely with ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch and snow accumulations up to 4" possible. Slippery travel conditions are expected. #nywx

Black ice may be around this morning. Watch for untreated surfaces such as sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways this morning.

Temperatures will rise above freezing today, and remain above freezing for most locations across western NY tonight. Temperatures will fall below freezing across north-central NY and a wintry mix and accumulating snow is possible.

Thunderstorms and associated freezing rain are advancing eastward toward WNY this evening and may move across parts of the region through the early overnight hours. These could produce some brief icing across areas north of the Southern Tier. Use caution if you will be driving!

Expect dense fog across southern Erie and Wyoming counties and the western Southern Tier tonight into Thursday morning, with visibilities falling to a quarter mile or less at times. If driving, slow down, use your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance in front of you!

Temperatures at or below freezing will allow for freezing rain, especially along the southern Lake Ontario shoreline. A winter weather advisory for northern Erie, Genesee, Wyoming and the southern Lake Ontario shoreline counties through 1 AM Thursday morning.

A mixed bag of precip will overspread the area Wed, with rain across the Southern Tier, wintry mix including freezing rain south of Lk Ontario, and snow east of Lk Ontario. Marginal temperatures near freezing and the higher February sun angle may help to keep roads mainly wet.

There is a threat for accumulating snow or a wintry mix from southern Lake Ontario shoreline, the northern Finger Lakes to the North Country late tonight through Wednesday night. Forecast confidence remains low to moderate for the placement and amount of freezing rain.
