Much needed rainfall will overspread the region today, lasting into tonight. Dry, but MUCH cooler conditions return for the mid to late week period, with frost/freeze potential both Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Beneficial rain returns to our region for a day, with rain remaining across the region into Tuesday night. The low probability of thunderstorms could also yield locally higher amounts.

Unseasonably warm weather under mostly sunny skies will continue one more day before a strong cold front brings some beneficial rain to western and north-central NY. High pressure builds back in Wednesday with a return to dry, but much cooler conditions.

Clear skies will give way to a modest increase in high clouds from west to east overnight. Temperatures will drop back into the 60s this evening, then to lows of 55-60 in most areas overnight, with upper 40s to lower 50s in the Southern Tier valleys and Lewis County.

Another summer-like day on tap with sunny and even warmer conditions. Daytime highs will soar into the low and mid 80s for most, with some upper 80s for the traditional warm spots. While not record-breaking, this is some 20-25 degrees above average for the first part of October!

Ongoing dry and warm weather brought worsening drought conditions this past week, with most of our area now in a moderate to severe drought. While there will be no relief through Monday, some beneficial rainfall may be possible Tuesday and Tuesday night.

Quiet weather and a warming trend will continue as we end the week, with highs mostly ranging through the 70s today, and lows from the mid 40s to mid 50s expected tonight. Even warmer conditions will then follow for this weekend, along with more fair dry weather.

A warming trend will begin today and last through next Monday, along with continued dry weather. A cold front will then bring some showers and a brief cooldown for the middle of next week. Looking further out in time, above normal temperatures remain favored through mid-month.

A Freeze Watch has been issued for Lewis county for late Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s . Frost and freeze conditions could damage or kill outdoor plants and other sensitive vegetation. #nywx

A moisture-starved cold front will drop south through the area this morning. A large area of Canadian high pressure will then build south over the region keeping dry weather intact, however will deliver a cooler airmass that slowly filters in from north to south through the day.

Skies will clear from west to east tonight with some patchy river valley fog late across the Southern Tier. Sunday will be mostly sunny and warm with a light west to northwest breeze.

Mainly clear skies this evening will give way to partly cloudy skies overnight. Patchy fog will develop late tonight and last through Saturday morning, with the most widespread fog across the valleys of the Southern Tier.

After another somewhat dreary start this morning, skies will gradually clear out through the day today. Mostly sunny skies will emerge by this afternoon for most as temperatures warm into the 70s. #NYwx

Aside from the possibility of a few widely scattered light showers lingering into a portion of Friday, another prolonged stretch of dry weather is forecast to last through at least the end of next week.

A batch of leftover showers will continue to exit the North Country this morning, with cloudy skies and early patchy fog/drizzle elsewhere. A second round of showers will move back in later today then taper off from west to east later this afternoon. #NYwx

Low pressure moving across the lower Great Lakes region will bring a beneficial rainfall to western and north-central NY tonight. Temperatures will remain on the mild side along with a touch of mugginess for a later September night.
