E 13 starts in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and passes thru the East Midlands covering 230 km on it’s way to the capital. Here it loses its identity and is subsumed into E 15.

There is one other north-south E-road in England, the E 13. Using the M1, London–Yorkshire motorway for much of its length, it splits from E 15 near the M62 and heads for London by a more westerly route.

Not so Apple, whose Maps app adorns my various devices.
I hope I’m not a conspiracy freak, but was it under pressure from DfT that they have expunged all references to E-roads in the latest updates of their software?

The GPS in my car (a Renault Arkana) is provided by a company whose products I make every effort to avoid. But to my delight the screen obligingly reminds me, as I cross M20 entering or leaving Maidstone, that it is also a part of E15, in the European road system.

The E32 is unique, being the sole route entirely within the UK. Only 30 km long, it is one of the shortest E-roads in the network and connects Colchester and Harwich in Essex.
It follows the A120 road and connects to the ferries from Harwich to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.

The even number, E32, shows that it is a west-east route, and in fact it feeds into the principal west-east E30, which connects Cork in the west of Ireland with Omsk in eastern Russia, and runs across the whole of Wales and England.

A quick bit of history, starting with a disclaimer. E-routes have nothing to do with the European Union (commission.europa.eu/index_en). They are older than the Coal and Steel Community; they extend way beyond the confines of both the Council of Europe and the European Economic Area (www.efta.int).

I’m sorry, me duck, but I’m not convinced by that picture. Or your name, come to think of it.

Perhaps you’re wondering which E-route is N°1 north/south. Well, it’s E 05.
All major north/south routes (reference routes) end in “5”. Major east/west roads end in “0”.

At its southern end it shares tarmac with England’s #M20 and #Dover_Harbour’s road system.

Hello, from E15 one of the UK’s network of European Highways, hiding in plain sight amongst our national networks.
E15 is probably the most significant, since it is the northernmost section of the 2nd north/south route, joining Scotland with Morocco via France and Spain.
